Imagine if when they are on the barge and the little gremlin like thing is chewing 3POs eye, if they just left it there, and all the way through the rest of the film, 3PO has to deliver all his lines with that little guy chewing on his eye.
Then maybe an Ewok can knock it off at the end and it falls into a cooking pot, and 3PO says "thank fuck for that" and gets the last line in the film.
