Screen capture software

I want something free and decent. No stupid 'demo' pasted into the images.

Can anyone recommend anything?

It won't capture streams from your video card. You'll be left with a strange 'transparent' color instead of an image. This is due to the fact that your video card has a direct bus to your CPU's North Bridge, allowing it to bypass unneeded processes and banana peels.

That means you have to be watching the film full screen though, right? If not the print screen button captures the whole screen, no?

Fraps is good.

Or just run the video through PowerDVD and take screen shots with that.

Yes, everyone should have PowerDVD.

Yup, try it. press print screen, and whatever's on your screen is copied to the clipboard as an image. then you can paste it into a graphics package or word or whatever.

although this doesnt work for stuff going thru your graphics card, like Messenger said.

I had a trial version of that for a month, and it took some very nice screenshots. Now I'm trying to get the university to buy me a copy, but they're cheap bastards.

The other thing I need right now is good software that will make my DVD drive region free, or allow me unlimited region switching.

Anybody do this to their drive? Recommendations?

What version of PDVD do you have? I can send you a serial for it if you want. Just PM me.

Region switching is enabled by flashing the drive which can be risky, unless you do a lot of it and its worth a possible fried drive. Problems are few and far between but it does carry risk.

You can get a program called DVD Region Free that does what it says on the tine but the trail version only lets you watch fifteen minutes before you have to exit and start it again which gets annoying if you're tryig to watch a movie of course. You can always buy it, serials are hard to come by for that program for some reason.
