I don't know what it's like in the States but the original UK show is awesome. It's easy to hate anything with the "reality tv" lable attached to it but like most things there are varying degrees of quality and Big Brother is entertaining and rules the roost in terms of "reality tv"
To be fair I haven't seen the UK version, but the US version is a bunch of boring, insipid assholes sitting around trying to be tricky and just making me wonder how mankind ever developed technology like the Internet and airplanes, if this is what the majority of people out there are like...
The HM's in the UK are for the most part insipid preening egotistical fools with all the scope of view of a blind badger in a bag that likes designer labels.
But...
They do have some brilliant housemates mixed in like Nikki who is an insane 24 year old who acts like a spoilt 10 year old girl by her own admission and who is so incredibly funny and rants so oten about the most ridiculous things you can't help love her. Then there is Pete, the Tourettes syndrome nice guy of the universe, is multi-talented genuinly an interesting character and says "Wanker" a lot.
They do find some great personalities and it's hard not to get drawn into it. The UK one does the show right as the originator of it in the first place. It's really about how crazy the people are inside the house and eccentric the group is as opposed to how "cool" and "hip" they are.
The intelligence levels in the house are always at an all time low but they often play that up by finding some of the most stupid people you can imagine so you're actually questioning their mental health by the end of it.
The prob with the US one is that there's no nudity, no shower-cams, and they bleep the cuss words, and they only show under-the-blankets sex, and then it's usually though a cheesy lens to make it look like an ultraviolet/surveillance cam...
It's voyeurism at its basest, so why not let people see everything?
I've been surprised at the lack of shower cams and the lack of any real nudity to be honest in the UK version. We certainly don't bleep swear words though, that would be insanity the whole show would be one long bleep soundtrack.
In previous BB's it's been far more voyeristic than this one, we still get nudity and the like but it's notably less this time.
