So I finally watched this. I'm not a HUGE Bond fan but I'm not a big Bond hater either, so I don't think I was biased either way. I enjoyed it. The cinematography was great. The action was good, especially in the pre-credits bit. Acting was good. I liked the attempts at depth with Bond and M. But, like...the plot was a bit stupid, right? It reminded me a bit of Star Trek Into Darkness (I know this came out first.) So the villains whole thing was getting revenge on M by completely discrediting her then killing her...and he did both these things. So basically Bond's a bit of a loser and it would have made no difference if he hadn't been in the movie?
I'll watch it in a year and post "well that was okay but I can't believe so many people said it was great with all the OBVIOUS PLOTHOLES" then people who said it was great will reply "yeah I said it was great at the time but I have noticed the OBVIOUS PLOTHOLES" since then.
OH BOY...
So the villain's whole thing is that he wants to be captured (just like The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers to some extent and oh yeah Star Trek Into Darkness) so he can enact his master plan. But Bond only tracks him down after a lengthy and lucky search because he still had some shrapnel in him from when he was shot and another hitman was carrying a casino chip...so, what, did Silva plan on Bond keeping the shrapnel in him for this long and arrange for the hitman to die but leave behind a casino chip?
And then after he's captured and escapes Silva's big plan is...walking into the court house and shooting at Dame Judy Dench (oh and hesitating before shooting at her so she can escape.)
WHY THE FUCK DID HE NEED TO BE CAPTURED TO DO THIS?
I guess Q plugging the master hacker's computer into the MI6 network isn't a plothole, it just means Q is an idiot?
Oh and Bond catches up with Silva right at the exact spot where Silva had set up a bomb (could he just set up a bomb in the courthouse then?) and right when a train is going by...that was pretty lucky.
Then Bond goes to his nicely shot Scottish mansion but doesn't actually have any guns in his secret car even though he's James Fucking Bond and...
Oh and sorry for going all PC gone mad but it's really hard to ignore that Moneypenny's arc is learning that women belong behind the desk, incompetent woman M is replaced by a nice male M and Bond sneaking into the shower of a freed sex slave (who later dies and he doesn't give a fuck.)
Well, anyway, it was an entertaining movie.
