Slumdog Millionaire

I saw this movie over the weekend. It was fantastic! If you go into it knowing nothing about it, you'll be pleasantly surprised. If you must know something about it, it takes place in India.

The cinematography is top notch, (which is why you should try and see it in a theater) and it's a fun romp through the streets of Mumbai, without having to deal with all the dirty towelheads and curry-farters in real life. It is also very dark at times. If you have tiny children, one part will probably scare them.

The three main actors do a great job, and I can see them coming to America and becoming famous, like what happened to Keira Knightly and that other brown girl in Bend It Like Beckam.

Go see it! Gogogo!!

Final Score: A well-deserved A

Yeah, just saw this at the local artsy theatre and loved it. Pretty fucking awesome movie. :techman:

And the Indian chick was INSANELY HOT! :D

will watch it. this is embarassing: love arty films and never even heard of this one before the Golden Globes. Completely under the radar.

I've heard very, VERY good stuff about this. I'll probably miss it, though. Heard good things about "The Wrestler" too. And there's lots of decent mainstream stuff in the theaters alla sudden.

Eh, just download it.
Not to hype it too much but this is the kind of stuff that will be considered important in two hundered years, IMO. I found those thoughts over on WF in the "The Wire" thread extremely interesting and this film definitely kinda confirms them - it's like Shakespeare only with way more possibilities. You get to do so much stuff with cinema/TV that you could have never imagined back in the day with plays.
Slumdog Millionaire is still very cheesy at times (especially the whole dance scene during the credits) but it also touches on a couple of very important points (e.g. how India is turning into a real player) while including enough socialist BS to satisfy the critics (and the way it is presented makes it easily bearable, in fact it makes it interesting) - and to make it enjoyable, it also includes a very decent plot and good actors.

/\ That whole dancing at the end is kinda East Indian tradition.

mild spoilers ahead....

That action star the kid fell into the shit for to get the autograph is suppose to be a HUGE star in India. Even I've seen some of his movies, and they ALWAYS dance at the end.

Okay, so, without reading this thread because I hate spoilers, I'm told this is an awesome movie and I believe it. My question is, does it have to be seen on the big screen? Is there anything in it that will make the theater experience better than the eventual dvd or on-demand experience?
