Starship Coyote
Original Gangster!
I'm giving it two weeks to shape up.
I fully realize that professional wrestling often stretches the boundaries of realism in its storylines and matches. I understand that.
As Gagh and I discussed in another thread, the consistent pushing of Rey Mysterio over other more talented and deserving wrestlers by going against all interpretations of reality to keep the belt around his waist has seriously pissed me off for two reasons:
1. It's obvious that Rey is serving as a filler until other wrestlers return from injuries. Angle and Batista immediately come to mind. Both give better and more thrilling matches than smallfry Rey ever does. OTOH, there are still wrestlers on the ticket who...I dunno...actually qualify as heavyweight contenders. Yet they're getting screwed out of the belt. I'd rather see the belt around Booker T or JBL again rather than have what little intelligence I bring to the TV insulted.
1a. In tandem with 1, Rey's matches lately are more about Eddie Guererro than Rey. Fuck, even the fans chant "Eddie" when Speedy Gonzales wrestles. You can't watch a Mysterio match...or a Benoit match incidentally...without seeing the Three Amigos popped somewhere. WWE, Eddie's dead...it's time to lay that shit down and move on.
2. Let's stop and do a headcount...World Heavyweight champion: latino. US heavyweight champion: black. SD GM: black. Strange. I think the only reason the tag champs are white is because no one gives a shit about tagteam wrestling anymore. With the demise of MNM, that division will probably fade away. But Teddy Long and his bookers aren't lining up minorities with the glory. Naww, couldn't be...
I'm sick to death of this constant Rey Mysterio scene: Rey gets the living hell beat out of him for 20 minutes, then suddenly comes back with an oppurtunity for the 619 and the win. Ever notice that wrestlers rarely lay on the ropes like that except in a Rey match? The evil rich white man got vanquished by the poor latino underdog yet again...this shit's getting obvious, and it's obvious who the bookers are catering to...the newest and fastest growing segment of America's population.
So, SD's on two weeks notice with me...either they make an attempt to maintain some sense of reality and quit sucking mexican dick, or I find other things to watch on Friday nights. Hambil seems to think Ghost Whisperer is pretty good...
