Smoke

Mirah

I love you
The smoke has cleared
or has it
I awoke at 4 AM to use the restroom
and I could smell smoke
I imagine it comes in through the vents
most of the vents and anywhere an ember could have fallen have been covered up
the buildings are still wrapped
with foil looking material
there is a perimeter
around the village
that is our boundary

The bus smelled like smoke yesterday
dusty
or was it ash?

Drove up the mountain
and saw
all the areas
that had been burned

Necessary
Mother Nature
Fire suppression
leads to
monsters

Lightning
Thunder
Rain
Wind
then snow

The deer have taken refuge among our chalets
saw a frog yesterday
squirrels not so many of them
but they were there

The water flows on the south side of the village
there is life
there are trees
and there is renewal

There's always fire in the sky
The stars burn, you know
Even when they give no light
There's still a cruel flow
That pulls at you
That bends the little time you have
And you can revisit your mistakes
That fall like iron into little lakes
And one day
You'll take a swim
In molten armor
And one day
You'll be like him
Pushing a death star

Were those spontaneous forest fires? You should publish that. It gives me that " You are there, kind of feel."

I could smell the smoke in the air as I lay on the old tree trunk next to the river. I watched 2 deer as they napped under the trees nearby. When I walked to the other part of the trail I could see the damage done by the fire. Some things untouched, some were ash. The deer walked among the fallen trees looking for food to eat. I wondered where they would go for winter. There is a grassy area saved from the fire, it is 9 miles down the road. I hear they will spend the winter there.
