Smoke

[Mirah]

I smell smoke
but it isn't about me
its about the one that called in the fire
the one that started it
and those that put it out
and the community
that comes together during an emergency

some rush away to secure thier houses
check in on thier loved ones
others offer up houses and space for people and animals

 

[Mirah]

look for the helpers they say
I try to concentrate on the positive
and for the most part I do
and I can't say I am of any help
but I wonder where the helpers are
when there isn't an emergency
what about every day
is it just during these times
when they want to say "I have this I can give"

Non Sequiter


The ants crawled about
and I laid down pepermint oil
tea tree oil
one bottle dropped out of my hands
and now
the whole place
has my eyes opened
and my nostrils opened
it is too much
whew

The ants came from that other place
happened once before
takes a little to get rid of them
some live with them
how
not me

I remember the day
the night
waking up to a smoke filled room
the town was filled with smoke
it was everywhere
our windows were open
no AC
and I thought we were on fire again

I call my friends
to check on thier place
I wonder if I am being over dramatic
there isn't anything they can do from afar
but at least I can alert them
and let them know
maybe they know a neighbor
the lines of communication are open

At least it is towards the end of the season

the winds were not around today
that was another plus
had it been 2 days ago
everything would be on fire
thankful

We still have another month of potentially warm weather
but it is cooling off faster in the evenings

I have no idea what the winds will do
I don't count on moisture until the snow arrives

the presence of rain often means thunderstorms

funny
I never feared the thunder and lightning on the west side
just the wind storms that knocked down the trees and branches knocking down power lines

over here there is wind
but no trees
just shrubs
dirt
grass
so much sky
dust storms
no protection
it is strange to me

The spring was cooler
the summer was hot
most days in the 90's some over 100
not as hot as last summer
when we had 118
that was too much

what will fall bring?

Winter

I never mind the winters
even when I have to drive
but sometimes I mind the drive
more deer

I love the snow
the peaceful
quiet falling snow
most hate it
whatever
learn to live with things
not against them

control it, push it over there, melt it, wipe it off
get rid of it
don't look at it
don't enjoy it
be miserable for the next 3 or 6 months
why
I would rather embrace

just put on my mittens
wool socks
down jacket
snow shoes

live in it
live with it
and be happy
I don't have to be grumpy about it
how boring
it is rare to be happy
must be grumpy

weather people are funny-
and by weather people I mean people who are almost never happy about any weather and thier happiness is based upon the weather almost all the time
"Its too hot" "Its too cold" "I miss the sun"
And one day they say, "This is the perfect weather" "I wish it would be like this every day"

Do you not know that each being depends upon the seasons? Okay maybe some could survive in your utopian weather place but many organisms require the changing of the seasons, night and day
what is a plant or a being that doesn't
I mean humans really
follow the sun!
Go to Hawaii
Florida

Or they come here
where i live
and then they cry when it rains
and I laugh

am I smug?
yes.
