I want to smell dark matter
Jimmy wanted answers and he asked his older brother where he could find them.
"Don't go asking for answers!" barked his brother. "Just keep your head down and get on with life like everyone else does."
"Why?" asked Jimmy.
"Because that's the way it's always been!" said his brother, smacking him hard in the face. "DO AS YER TOLD."
Jimmy wandered off into the woods, saddened. He was going nowhere in every sense. He just kept walking deep into the night. There was a time when he would be scared to be out in the woods at night. Not now. Nothing scared him. He was empty inside. There was nothing left of him to scare. Eventually he came to a house in the forest. He knocked the door and an old woman answered.
"Yes sonny?" she said.
"Can I come in and eat most of your food?" asked Jimmy, who was hungry.
"Okay," said Laura, for that was her name. "Come in!"
He went in.
Inside her house were a large collection of skeletons.
"You can these people?" asked Jimmy, disinterested.
"Yes," said Laura, coldly.
"Cool," said Jimmy, helping himself to some bread.
"I'm so old," cried Laura, suddenly. Jimmy didn't react. "I was tasked with killing people in the woods, but I'll be dead myself soon!"
"Who tasked you with it?" asked Jimmy.
"The voices in my head, dear," said Laura. "Now they're saying you should replace me! HEHEHE!" Jimmy struck her over the head with a skillet.
"Shut the fuck up, I'm trying to eat," he said, as she died on the floor. His first kill. He felt nothing. No guilt, no satisfaction. He sighed and headed out again.
Jimmy walked and walked until finally he came to the edge of the woods. There was a desert beyond.
"Is there any fucking point in me going on?" he asked. A wizard appeared from the sand.
"No," said the wizard, honestly. Jimmy sat down on a tree stump and watched the sand for a long time. Eventually, the wizard came and sat beside him.
"Life is just one long journey to death," observed Jimmy.
"I know," said the wizard. "Want to get high?"
"Sure," said Jimmy. And they did.
THE END
