Star Trek: The Lost Era

Who would like to see a series in this era? I'm talking about the era between TUC and TNG. The reason I bring this up is because Legacy isn't going to happen with Terry Matalis, he's not coming back as long as Kurtzman is in charge and I don't think Star Trek should be on TV or in the movies until he's gone. That's going to be a while. The thing is though is that the lost era has the look of the TOS movies, with the ships, the consoles and uniforms, but it also transitions to the TNG look as well. That's the look I grew up with and fell in love with because it looks real to me, it has verisimilitude.

The other reason why I would like to explore this era because it takes place in a time where the Federation is normalizing relations with the Klingons which could be interesting. At the same time the Romulans are out there and could be set up for adversaries to the Federation. You could even have a DS9 type situation with Khitomer at the center of the series. This just seems the perfect breeding ground for the type of Star Trek episodes fans know and love.

Now, you could visit the era between TOS and TMP and that might not be a bad era to explore, but I doubt anyone wants to revisit the TMP pajamas.

I wouldn't be opposed to the idea. I've read a handful of the Lost Era books and it would be an interesting timeframe to explore with a show. At the same time I doubt it would happen since Paramount isn't exactly swimming in money right now. It would be more interesting to me anyway than the stupid Academy idea.

A Starfleet Academy show isn't inherently stupid to me, but not with Tilly and certainly not under Kurtzman.

The pilot episode could have Rachel Garrett buying the farm in the Ent-C... then maybe the show depicts the years without an Enterprise...

At the risk of hijacking your thread, I still want an Enterprise era show that actually doesn't suck. I've said it before, but this is how I wound up spending countless hours on BBS's since around 2000. I was really excited by the premise of Enterprise and hoped they'd do a "The Right Stuff" kind of feel to it and have space cowboys, fucking shit up with good intentions, to explain how we wound up with the Prime Directive. Romulan War. Beginnings of the Federation. Primitive transporters. You name it. I tried to e-mail Paramount but they made it practically impossible to e-mail them about Star Trek so I joined the official Star Trek message board and it was so terrible and shitty that I wound up at SubSpace and then TBBS before going to Wordforge and then here. But yeah. Talk about a fucking missed opportunity.

OK. I'll try to circle back on topic: I just can't get excited about how we got from "TUC" to "Encounter at Farpoint." Apart from that I have a red and black synthetic jacket that I think would be he foundation for a decent cosplay of a uniform from that era. Put the movie "Delta" pin on it and TNG rank insignia with a black spandex T and appropriate trousers and boots with the V-VI phaser and my phone as a communicator and I'm sexy.

I drank too much tonight.

I've read books that were supposed to fill the gap between TOS and TMP, I've read books that fill other gaps, and honestly they bored me. I'd hate to have a series developed and either the series is boring and it only gets one season, or it gets renewed for season three and it absolutely sucks and we're stuck with it no matter what. Either way, I want what's already in the pipe to be good. I want S3&S4 of SNW to be awesome, I want Academy to be watchable (Mainly because I want to see Becky Lynch in a Starfleet Uniform!)

But... am I going to hell for thinking "WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO TILLY! SHE WAS HOT FOR A MINUTE!"

Eh I still think she's hot, but I think a lot of her recent weight gain has to do with her marriage falling apart. Its interesting that originally she seemed slated to be a lead in the Academy show, but now shes only a regular guest star, and Tig Notaro and Robert Picardo have been bumped to series regulars.

Tilly was hot for a minute then blew the fuck up.

I wouldn't mind exploring the Enterprise era more, I like the aesthetic of that show and would love to see the Romulan war.
