Or Broken Flowers and Rent. How the heck would I know what you like?

Well. I like horror, Sci fi Horror, Classic black and whites.. B&W horror.. Silent movies.. Drama, thrillers.. All kinds of movies.. Just can do with out porn, Westerns and war type movies..

What is Broken flowers?

the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre works well still, and the new WAR OF THE WORLDS, simply put, fucking ROCKS

I saw Fellini's Nights of Cabiria for the first time a couple of nights ago. It's an earlier film--Italian Neorealism instead of the weird-ass shit he did later on, like Satyricon and such.

Very moving. Very moving.

Netflix has the Criterion Collection version, with some informative interviews and a very interesting documentary on the restoration of the film.

Shit! That reminds me. As of Tuesday, I had not received Red. I need to call and see if it was delivered.

Do you care for Luis Bunuel (another of my favorite sureallists).
I love Bunuel! The Age of Gold, The Andalusian Dog, The Discreet Charm of the Burgi...Bourgwa...damn I could never spell that one, and his later stuff all rock... :D

I have not watched as much Fellini as I would like to. I really need to watch more; for the later stuff, I feel like I need to create the proper atmosphere to sit and watch attentively. Well, for any decent film, really. I find that I watch so much crap while doing two or three other things at the same time, and that's no way to watch Fellini.

Bunuel is a favorite of mine. I particularly like Cet Obscur Objet du Desir, and not just because Carole Bouquet is in it. Have you read the novel that's based on? I believe it's called The Woman and the Puppet, by Pierre Louys. Reading that, and then sitting down to watch the Bunuel is an interesting experience. I also like Le Charme Discret de la Bourgeoisie, and of course Belle de Jour. I've yet to see Un chien andalou, I'm embarassed to say. I heard bad things about the Facets Region 1 DVD transfer, but apparently the Region 2 release is well-done. Now that I'm region-free, I just need to pony up whatever it costs to buy it and get it to the States. Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.fr, and Amazon.de are a Godsend.

Bunuel is fun with undergrads--totally blows their minds. Took my last Film Aesthetics course quite awhile to understand that two actresses were playing the part of Conchita in Obscure Object.

Is belle de jour with Catherine Deneuve where she plays a prostitute?

Yep. That's not as weird as other Bunuel films. He was heavily influenced by surrealism, and I believe that Un chien andalou was made in collaboration with Salvador Dali.

Later Fellini is also a mindfuck. But in a positive way. Watch a couple of his earlier films first, like Nights of Cabiria and La Dolce Vita, then watch 8 1/2, which is semi-autobiographical. Then hit some of the later films and see what you think. Probably start with Juliet of the Spirits when you move to his later phase.

If you use Netflix, make sure to get Criterion versions whenever possible. They will have good commentary tracks and extras to supplement the film. Criterion kicks ass.
