Superman
Look! Up in the sky!
Metropolis. Day.
Superman flies high over his city, surveying its beauty.
Life is good. Superman is on his way home to meet Lois, who's returning from a two-week field report in Afghanistan.
The Man of Steel arcs towards his apartment when suddenly, stabbing pain shoots through his head, blinding him. He loses his altitude and wheels madly, crashing into a nearby rooftop.
Moments of unconsciousness pass. The Metropolis Marvel opens his eyes to a horrific sight: Metropolis in smoking ruins.
Superman scans the shattered buildings to analyze the pattern of destruction. Fear stabs through his heart when he realizes the pattern is reminiscent of how the city would look if Superman himself were to lose control and rampage.
A low, animal sound, accompanied by stomach-churning slurping and crunching, catches the attention of Superman.
He turns, and finds a ghastly mirror of himself. Not Bizarro, not some parallel version of himself from the Mutliverse...but himself, as a rotting, reanimated zombie, gnawing on the body of what appears to be a child.
Superman is repulsed, but also enraged. Though he knows that his zombie self is still a living thing, he also knows it must be destroyed.
