The Defenders

Yes, there seem to be lots of hallway fights in these Marvel Netflix shows. I wonder what kind of injury Luke sustains this time that only Rosario Dawson can help him with? And, please don't say Matt Murdock just runs around in his lawyer clothes the entire time. I look forward to Jessica dripping sarcasm all over everybody. I'm as eager to see this as I am Guardians volume 2, and Thor Ragnarockaroundtheclock.

I'm hoping they combine Luke, and Danny into a buddy show after this, Just like the comics!

I would have been disappointed if there was no corridor fight scene.

Unfortunately Luke Cage was already renewed for a second season, without Danny.

(No news on Iron First season two though lol.)

Dammit, I still need to get caught up on all the superhero shows on Netflix :rwmad:

I can highly recommend spending a Sunday mostly watching just one TV show.

SPOILARS

The corridor fight scene in (I think) episode 3 was really good!!

Well, I binge watched it, just as I said I would.

It was good, but not as good as Luke Cage, Daredevil, or Jessica Jones. (Jones was my favorite so far, but I think I'm in the minority on that one) It was better than Iron Fist, and
having the plot kind of center around him may bug some, but it worked for me. The source of the "substance" the Hand sought was kind of silly
The interactions were all enjoyable. Jessica's cantankerous attitude was grating at times, but that's her character. It definitely did a good job of setting up future storylines that are faithful to the comic mythos. Such as,
Misty getting a Cyborg arm, and starting a partnership with Colleen Wing

Overall, it was enjoyable, and the ending was good, even if it was somewhat predictable. It would've been cool to seen some kind of cameo from a movie character, but alas, there wasn't. I mean Nick Fury, or Maria Hill has had to have noticed or cared about all the wacky shit going on in New York. It seems like Coulson would've tried to recruit Luke while he was locked up, or something.

We'll probably also see
Iron Fist temporarily taking up the mantle of Daredevil. Since it seems like he told anyone who would listen he's the Iron Fist, and alot of people have seen the chest tattoo him running around shirtless in a bandana doesn't seem likely. It would also be a reference to the Daredevil comic where he took up the Daredevil suit briefly in an effort to clear Matt who had his identity exposed. Matthew asked him to protect the city. And the Daredevil esque pose Danny was doing in the last scene gives traction to the Danny as Daredevil theory. Perhaps he'll run around in the suit at the start of DD season 3 until Matt comes back. Being that Matt was saved, and resurrected(?) by the substance most likely Matt will probably suffer from amnesia.

Yeah this was really inconsistent for me (SPOILERS FOR THE WHOLE THING):

Everything about the different characters from different shows meeting each other was really good. It was fun to see the main four hang out - especially as the three good ones correctly seemed to think that Danny sucked. It was cool to see the side characters talk to each other like when Patsy Trish talked to Karen and stuff. I also liked that pretty much everyone else saw that Danny sucked and was lame, which he was.

Some of the fight scenes were really good! The big one in episode 3 where they all meet especially!

But BOY some of the fight scenes were HOT TRASH. Specifically the very first one, and the final one, which both consisted of people in dark clothes fighting ninjas in dark clothes in a dark cave with low lighting, shot with shaky cam and quick cuts. It was basically incomprehensible gibberish.

The Hand were as bad as they always were (pretty bad) and they kept going on about destroying New York but then they just sort of forgot about that and just focused on getting the dragon goo which they ran out of (WHOOPS). Also Sigorney Weaver was good, although she didn't really get a lot to work with. All the forshadowing of her having lived a long time was really ham-fisted. But then just as she's getting good they pull the Luke Cage trick of killing off the good villain near the end and replacing her with a really shitty one for no real reason.

I really don't care about Elektra. Like, really. She was a bad final villain. Why was she evil, exactly? Like, no seriously, why? When she had no memories it made sense but then she regained them and was still evil for some reason.

OH NO THEY KILLED OFF MATT MURDOCK WOW THIS IS A THING THAT'S TOTALLY REAL AND WILL STICK FOREVER MOST DEFINITELY ISN'T A FAKE OU- hahaha it's a fake-out! I'm sure no one saw that coming and we didn't just spend like 10 minutes all pretending he's totally dead you guys for no real reason!

CLAIRE FUCKING TEMPLE KNEW ALL OF THESE PEOPLE BUT there was NEVER a scene where they actually acknowledged this. At all. She has literally one line with Daredevil. Wasted opportunity.

Jessica Jones is still the best one and I look forward to Jessica Jones season 2.

SPOILERS

Yeah, the thing the show did best was the interactions between the four main heroes. The fight scene at the end of episode 3 was great and really satisfying when like another door would open and Luke would be standing there or Jessica would throw a guy into Danny's fist or whatever. The restaurant episode after was very good too because of all the interactions. The show has salvaged Danny quite a bit. I mean he's still the worst one but at least other characters act like he is and he got to do some goofy humour which he was quite good at. He and Luke worker well together and it's crazy they're not just doing a Power Man and Iron Fist show. I liked that Colleen was basically the fifth Defender and got to kill that guy with the Zoolander voice (again.) Misty's arm chopping was brutal. Jessica is still the best yes and her interactions with Matt were fun.

But the Hand just aren't that interesting as villains because they're goals are vague and mystical and can't be related to. Fisk and Kilgrave were evil but understandably human. Sigourney Weaver was good but ultimately didn't do much before they did the "killing off the seemingly main villain to make a secondary villain look more impressive" trick. Which didn't work! Elektra's new suit looked cool but what did she actually want in the end? Just to have weird death sex with Matt again? Did Madam Gao die too? All that build up to her and she just stands there waiting to die? Who was the weird scarred guy Stick met with in Daredevil season one? We'll never know!

I don't think we've seen the last of Gao. If Daredevil, (and Elektra presumably) were spared from dying by simply being in the dust of the Dragon bones then perhaps Gao will return too. I definitely think they should merge Luke Cage, and Iron Fist into one show. They have a full, and great supporting cast, and I would definitely be excited to see some episodes spotlighting Wing, and Knight. They have a great premise already set in place for it.

Imagine they go with a Luke/Danny buddy show where they are "heroes for hire" just like the book. Danny moonlights as Daredevil until Matt returns. He decides to stick with the vigilante life, and dons a costume similar to his comic look. He somehow loses a large chunk, or all of his fortune steering him into a partnership with Cage, and the ladies where they open up a Jessica Jones type business with Dawson serving as team medic/voice of reason. Maybe they get funding from Stark, or SHIELD. Or maybe they form an agency to directly oppose Diamondback, and (Gao?) who's returned to Harlem to form a super mafia type group of his own to fill the vacuum left by the Hand. Daredevil, and Jessica continue their own respective series with an occasional crossover or guest appearance. Then they could all just reunite for the eventual season 2 of the Defenders.
