The Expanse season 3

Not visible in my country, but I bet it looks good. The first two seasons only covered the first book (sort of) so I hope they pick up the pace a bit. I’m worried it’ll get cancelled before they get to the end.

There's going to be nine books when it's done and there's no way they'll get nine seasons so some stuff is going to be cut...(and if you haven't read the latest book there's a good reason why I don't think it'll ever be filmed.)

It seems to me that somewhere along the way the book series kind of went off the rails, but I can't pinpoint where exactly. It took me about forever to plod through Nemesis Games and I'm about a third of the way through Babylon's Ashes. They shouldn't be snoozeworthy but they kind of are, if that makes sense.

I’ve been reading Nemesis Games for about a year now and I’m only starting to enjoy it in the last 50 pages or so. Part of it might be that the main characters all got split up in the last book and have remained apart in this one, which has meant that new, less interesting ones have tagged along with them so they have someone to think out loud to. We don’t get much of the interaction we enjoy and it’s worsened by the characters constantly pining for each other. Instead of investing in the newbies, we’re reminded on a regular basis how much better the core group is. Uh... you should probably stop doing that, writers. You’re lampshading how dull the books are. Also, a lot of the interest in the first book was the mystery of the protomolecule, which is only now mentioned in passing. Instead it’s lots of political in-fighting, which just sort of happens to the characters rather than them taking an active interest in it, because they’re largely apolitical mercenaries who don’t have a stake in one side beating another. They want everyone to just get along, which is all very nice, but not interesting. And the last thing I have a problem with is how repetitive the writing is, both in terms of plot points (every battle feels the same and goes on for ever) and language (they’ll hit on a really poetic way of describing something, then use it again five pages later). Maybe the two authors edit each others chapters or something. If so, they ought to let someone else do it.

I remember that being the book where Holden just kept talking about how much he missed everyone else and not doing anything relevant to the plot. That would be weird to film.

And one more thing, every character speaks in the same voice. The voice of Joss Whedon. Give us a character who is not incredibly fucking sassy, just for some shear variety.

I am really looking forward to joining you making sneery comments about TV shows we feel are not up to the mark (Now I am on Netflix).

It will be fun being a complete arse about other peoples hard work!!

I bet the hard working tv people have also made sneery remarks about other people's hard work on other shows, so it's okay!
