Mirah
I love you
The man pulled the fish out of the water and threw it back in. "Not big enough" he said. I stood and watched him for a few minutes and watched him work.
"Now I don't want you to drift too far away from me, ok?" He said sternly. I could hear the seriuosness in his voice, I knew what he meant, yet I wanted to tease him just a little.
"Do you think I will drift far away?" I asked and smiled as I looked into his eyes knowing full well that I had intended to do just that. If he chose to bite, then I would stay by his side forever. He bit. But then he threw me back into the ocean.
I got into the boat and drifted away knowing the line was wrapped around his foot. He would be with me before too long. It wasn't soon enough. I was getting hungry and had nothing to eat in a week. I needed him, I wanted him and he didn't know it.
He told me I was in his thoughts. I knew that was all he could give me for the pirates were near.
Was this the life I wanted? Running from sea to sea, land to land, never knowing where my home was? Did I enjoy the inconsistency or did I long for stability? Would I be like a pirate forever, stealing other people's ships then claming them as my own? Would I ever own my own island, my own ship?
