I avoid looking at the IMDb pages for films like this, because I'm always afraid of the terrible casting choices. This time I may have been completely right to do so. Costner as Pa' Kent and Crowe as Jor-El!? What the fuck, people!? Really?
Ugh....
On a Superman-related note: we've watched his genesis in three different ways so far in recent pop culture: The original Reeve Superman movies, the latest reject Superman Returns, and of course Smallville. Not to mention the countless other shit we've been inundated with: Lois & Clark, The Adventures of Superman (c1953), and HUNDREDS OF CARTOON VARIANTS. Superman is by far the most-used comic superhero of all-time.
I'm tired of watching him struggle with his superhero role when he first starts out. Why can't we watch him when he's already been at it for a while? Skip the whole awkward youth thing and cut straight to him fighting guys like Darkseid. Now, THERE is a superhero/villain struggle I'd like to see on the big screen. With these CGI budgets as big as they are, why can't they do shit like a proper Doomsday, Brainiac, or even Mister Mxyzptlk and his Bizarro? Why do they ALWAYS have to re-hash Zod or Luthor?
Here's what I predict: 2.5hr movie with 1hr spent on Clark's journey from childhood to adulthood. 1 hr spent on backstory. 29.5 minutes of him having some sort of bullshit philosophical dilemma. Finally, 30 seconds of REAL Superman-type shit, which is gonna be nothing but 1-second cuts of over-cgi'd crap.
0/10
I'll torrent it when it hits DVD just because I'm a glutton for punishment.
