The PS3's capabilites look pretty tight.

I have to admit. The in game graphics really are all that. Considering this is at the start of it's life, Devs don't even know how to tap the NExt-Gen consoles for all their worth yet.

Yep, pretty good for the starting point.

I think those images were all prerendered. As such, meh.

The real question is when is the next-generation-quality gameplay?

I could give a fuck about playing Halo 2, but with slightly better graphics. If I'm going to drop $400 or $500, then I want an entirely new experience. I won't pay a premium just for graphics.

So, show me the great, amazing, mind-blowing gameplay. So far Xbox 360 has been a disappointment to me, let's see if the PS3 really does get it right.

I could care less about Consoles to be honest. My PC will always rule the roost gaming wise.

Of course gameplay matters the most. I have been playing some mega old titles recently, I am not fussed with pretty real time shadows if the game sucks.

As for the images. They are not renders. They are all in game graphics.

I will fight you to the death and resurrect this thread if you are correct.

I will wear whatever silly avatar I rock at that time and reply that you, in fact, were correct.

Graphics are quite good. But like others have said, great graphics don't mean shit if the gameplay sucks. And, personally, I'm not willing to shell over $400-$500 for a console. That's getting into computer prices. I can build a brand new kick-ass computer system, and get just as good or better graphics than that. The XBOX was a great buy, not too expensive, and a shit load of cool games. Such may not be the case with the new systems since cost doesn't justify for the graphics.

Also, with the PS3, you're getting stuff you might not even want, or ever use. Why pay for "Blue Ray" DVD playing when you may never want or use it? Sony is just shoving another crapload down people's throats, and that ain't right.

The top images are in game from Killzone. The car image is in game from Project Gotham 3 and the bottom one is from the technical Demo of Final Fantasy VII that SquareEnix put together to show the capabilities.

They are all in game, that I can totally gaurantee.

I know, this is just looking at the tech specs for the machiner itself, I'm not getting intoa gameplay debate. and Graphics do matter to an extent. Lets have amazing graphics AND great gameplay. Who said we have to only have one or the other?

BlueRay and HDDVD are the new indistury standards. You won't be able to get away from them by 2007. All DVD players will be made with the capabilites.

Your average DVD holds 4.7GB of data right? BlueRay can hold 50GB on one disc. No more seasons of TV over six discs. Huge amount of content available for devs to fill up without worring about maxing the discs out.

BlueRay is here and it's the future of DVD. You will want it.

I won't buy either console for a long time yet. The Xbox360 will have to drop in price again before I look at it and the Ps3 I won't think about getting until way after release.

This is true. :)

That still remains to be seen. It also depends on how the public embraces it or not. BlueRay, and HDDVD are competing formats that don't work together. BlueRay only works on a BlueRay player. It won't play HD DVD discs. Why? Because Sony won't allow it. The discs are also thinner for the BlueRay. Personally, the way Sony behaves with all their BS, I am home the more friendlier format HDDVD will win out. That would mean, BlueRay PS3's would have been a waste of money for that technology.

A DVD-R holds around 4.7 GB. A dual layer DVD-R holds about twice that. Regular DVD movies hold a bit more. True, a BlueRay can hold 50GB, but so can an HD DVD (I think it is slightly less, but not much).

I'd rather have HD DVD if I had to choose. Sony never learned. The BETA was a better machine, and it failed due to Sony's tactics. Their doing it again, and are shoving a product down people's throats more aggressively than ever. And with Sony's recent scandals of creating self installing programs in their music CD's that comprimised computers, I don't trust them.

Same here. Same here. :)
