English actor ROWAN ATKINSON wants to revive his favourite character BLACKADDER, but is skeptical his co-writers BEN ELTON and RICHARD CURTIS will not be interested.

Atkinson played EDMUND BLACKADDER, an English royal and government employee who appears in various time periods in history, in the TV series, which ran in the 1980s. Several one-off episodes were also commissioned in the 1990s.

He says, "This time, I like the idea of him being a prisoner of war in Colditz (Germany) during the Second World War. That would have the right level of authority and hierarchy which is apparent in all the Blackadders.


"Sadly I don't think this will ever happen, if Elton and Curtis wanted to, I would happily do it, but I think Blackadder represents a place where all the people who created it were at that particular time. It would be hard to replicate that now we have all moved on."

Atkinson is on board. If Curtis and Elton don't step upto the plate I will cut them up.
 
Curtis is a fine writer, but Elton hasnt been funny in about 20 years.

Any comedy project could only benifit from his absence.
 
I loved Blackadder (still do), but I don't think we need any more, because I reckon it would suck bigtime.
 
Blackadder back and forth wasnt exactly a laugh riot.
 
Back and Forth did suck, that is true. It was one too many special and it seemed rushed.

And I do share Gagh's skepticism of a revival being anything more than a suckfest but I do think it's possible to strike gold again. I like the Colditz idea as well.

Agreed on Elton as well. He lost his edge years ago.


Ok, ok.. the chips are stacked but Atkinson is still the shizzle and IS Blackadder. And always will be.


If they can get Laurie, Fry and Mckinnery (we know Robinson will) then it could rule given that the script is legendary as it has to be to meet Blackadder standards.
 
They'll never get Laurie now he's got house.

Fry and McKinnery are probably a safe bet, maybe even Miranda Richardson, although she would be harder to wedge into a coldiz scenario unless she was a german.
 
I would wedge miranda richardson into my cupboard at home.
 
Wedge Antilles could be in the new Blackadder.
