Sounds like as good a time as any. It premiered on The Tracy Ullman show in 1987, so it would be on the 40th anniversary. Julie Kavner's voice is wrecked after voicing Marge and her sisters for so many years. Harry Shearer is probably on life support by now trying to keep Mr. Burns and Smithers going. It was ambitious to think so, but these guys cannot go on voicing these characters forever. In 2027, could this be the end?
Age is one thing. Capability of continuing the roll is another. I dunno if you've been watching the last few seasons. But Marge sounds even more inaudible than she ever has. Shearer's Burns and Smithers are far cries from what they were even ten years ago. The argument can be made that all our voices change as we get older. But there's a reason why Julie Kavner refuses to be filmed while recording. It has to be murder on her vocal chords, let alone forty years worth of it.ROLL CALL!
Dan Castellaneta - nearly 68
Nancy Cartwright - nearly 68
Julie Kavner - 75
Harry Shearer - nearly 82
Yeardley Smith - 61
Hank Azaria - 61
Pamela Hayden - 72
Tress MacNeille - 74
Maggie Roswell - nearly 73
Overall, not as doom-laden as one would assume. Pamela, Tress and Maggie are replaceable. Assuming the rest are in good/average health, Kavner and Shearer are the only concerns among the irreplaceable. But who knows anything about anything... knock wood.
I just watched this the other day:Age is one thing. Capability of continuing the roll is another. I dunno if you've been watching the last few seasons.
