When my Grandad passed away in 1998, I inherited a decent sized bunch of periodicals saved throughout his life.
My Grandad was a well learned man who could speak 7 languages, and used to run Army Libraries, amongst other tasks during the war. He later went on to become a Classical Music Archivist for the BBC.
This Magazine, of which I have around 20 odd copies, is called Men Only. The magazine still exists today as a full on Soft Core Porn magazine.
Back in the 40's & 50's this was different. The magazine contained articles relating to men, such as politics, satire, sport, passtimes & other such endeavours.
Having just looked it up on Wiki and at eBay, the magazine gradually started to replace the Satirical illustrated covers (usually of Political or Historical figures) with that of models. The content gradually become more like a 1960's equivalent of Nuts or Zoo magazine.
The original purpose was easily the most appealing:
