I want to smell dark matter
"I need to go to sleep, okay?" said thed girl. The Squidinator had been following her all day. Watching her. She'd had about enough now.
"Tell me your name first," said the Squidinator, not for the first time.
"No," she said. "I'm not letting you have that. You've taken everything else. You're not having that. You don't get to know me as a real person. We're not friends. Youi're a monster."
"I haven't hurt you," he said, his tentacles stirring sadly.
"You're playing some sick game," she said. "Or you've just gone mad. Whatever it is, you've already killed millions of people..."
"I DIDN'T HAVE A CHOICE!" he said, releasing squid ink. It did not effect her, of course.
"I don't know if you did or didn't. Maybe you're a victim too, somehow. But I'm not telling you my name. Now fuck off." She lay down on the bed in the house they had entered and rolled over, her back to him.
"Why don't you sleep in your own bed, at home?" he asked. "Why did we have to break in here?"
"A mob of your followers burned down my home. Or maybe it was a mob of people out to kill you. I can't remember anymore."
"Do you ever think about death in bed?" he asked after a pause. "I used to. When I was human. I remember that now. Being trapped in my tiny little brain, incased in a thing skull. Nothing but a thought rattling about in there. Would have taken nothing to snuff it out..." He was almost talking to himself now.
"Are you threatening to bash my skull in?" she asked.
"No!"
"I used to think about death a lot," she said, eventually. "Now I don't. I don't think about anything. Leave me alone. Let me sleep."
"I don't believe you," he said. "You haven't given up on life. You still eat and survive."
"Just animal instinct," she said, laughing. "That's what you think it is, isn't it? You're above the rest of humanity, we're just animals to you now..."
"I'm still human," he said, weakly. He remembered falling. He remembered chanting. He remembered his brain growing beyond that thing skull. He remembered more than one thought rattling around in there. "I think I'm indestructible," he added, after a long moment.
"Put that theory to the test," she said. "Jump off a high building or something. Why is it you haven't tried to kill yourself yet, by the way?"
"I...I knew it wouldn't work," he said. Was that the truth? He didn't know.
"LET ME SLEEP," she shouted, suddenly.
"Okay," he said, sadly. He sat by her bed, watching her the whole night.
