I want to smell dark matter
The gun didn't go off. She shook it and tried again.
"I think you're out of bullets," said the Squidinator. "You would really have killed yourself..."
"There's nothing left!" she said. "There's no me! Just a stalker and death."
"You said before you wouldn't kill yourself, you wouldn't give me that satisfaction..."
"That was before I knew! This...this is all about me. It's my fault. Not my fault, YOUR fucking fault, but it's still because of me! You wanted to shag me so much you turned into a monster or something...was it fucking worth it? Look at me. I'm not even hot. You ended the world for this." She shook her bum at him. The Squidinator was ashamed to admit to himself that he found it sexy, but decided not to tell her.
"It wasn't you...do you think...stalking you was the worst thing I ever did? I had much darke thoughts than that...but I never did anything truly evil. It was frustration...jealousy..." He saw a flash of the man again, the man about ten years younger than him, but a real man, a normal man, looking at the Squidinator like he couldn't believe the Squidinator could be a real person...was this a real memory or another dark fantasy? He couldn't remember...but more was coming back. "Cheese wheels."
"What about them?" she asked. She was just standing there, still clutching the gun, saying things. There was nothing else she could do.
"I...yes. there was a man, an ordinary man, the kind of man I'd never be. The kind of man who had sex with girls and got married and had kids. I walked by him and he looked at me and I started thinking about things. I was thinking about him going to parties and eating cheese. A cheese board do they call it? Something like that. I thought about big wheels of cheese then. I don't know why. They stuck in my mind."
"And that's why you make people give you cheese wheels?"
"I don't make them do it! They just do...I must have...in the mountain...in the pit...oh God what am I..." Visions in his brain now. He knew. He looked up, suddenly. He didn't give it time to disappear. He could see it.
"What are you staring at?" she said. But she wouldn't look the same way. She kept turning her eyes away.
"LOOK AT IT," he ordered her. And suddenly she did. Did he have power over her after all? They were both looking at it now. The mountain. Impossibly high. Impossibly old. It did not belong.
"That wasn't there before," she said.
"It was, you just wouldn't look at it...I wouldn't either. It's so wrong it fills me with dread even staring at it, my brain tried to ignore it. Yours did too."
"I mean I lived here, or near here, for years and I never noticed a big honking mountain," she said, transfixed by it.
"Don't stare too long or the madness will enter you, as it did me," said the Squidinator, beginning to understand.
"There was no mountain though! I remember, the day this all started, my mother told me they'd found something buried, she said they thought it was a temple...then she changed before me, started chanting. I shook her and shook her and she wouldn't stop."
"There was a temple...I entered it. I knew it was wrong but I did it...then I became this. And then the mountain rose behind me and stood again as it had in the old days. My mountain, from when I was a God."
"Oh," she said.
"And now you have given me the strength to return there and end all this. Thank you, Lisa."
"No problem..." She was still staring at the mountain. She was almost smiling...almost laughing. "It's so old. So much older than humanity. We're nothing compared to it. Compared to you."
"What happened to your mother," said the Squidinator, stepping close to her now.
"She killed herself because she loved you so," said Lisa. "She'd have given anything to be this close to you."
"And now you are this close," said the Squidinator, the power flowing through him.
"Yes...master," said Lisa. And she began to kiss him and pull down his trouser.
This is wrong, the Squidinator thought to himself. Or was it what had always been meant to be?
"No, stop," he said. "You're succumbed to the madness. This is wrong...it's rape, like you said."
"Master, master, MASTER," she said, pulling his squid penis out. It was erect. He pushed her over.
"I'm going to the mountain to become a man again," he said. "That's the only way I can free you from this."
"I'll wait for you, master," she said. "I love you."
"Yes, " he said, sighing, turning away from her. Lisa's part was over. "They all say that."
"I think you're out of bullets," said the Squidinator. "You would really have killed yourself..."
