I want to smell dark matter
"It's funny. I let myself be trapped underground by the chanting to kill the evil in me. But I ended up killing the man. I can't remember my life. I can barely remember my second life. All I know is what I am now. All I know is what I want to do to the world."
"Wipe the scourge of humanity off the face of the Earth..."
"Oh no. Not that. I'll turn them in into an army. The stars themselves will tremble...is there a reason I'm thinking of the stars? I haven't an ancient memory of stars."
"I'll tell you about that later."
"A hundred and fourteen years though. And nothing changed. What did I think when I let myself be trapped? That it would bring the world together? It hasn't! They're just the same! I read about it on the internet. They still have wars. Religions. Rape. Murder. All that bad stuff. Soon there will be none of that. Soon they'll be like me."
"Raise the mountain again..."
"You just want more power. You've faded so much."
"But so has the man in you."
"Yes. Something snapped. When Chloe showed me how pathetic I was...I was reborn. I'm someone new now. Not the man. Not the Squidgod. Not even the Squidinator. I'm...the Master."
Chloe was standing there wathcing him lovingly as he had this head conversation. He turned to her.
"Is your mother in the house?"
"Yes, Master."
"Kill her for me."
"Yes, Master." He followed her down the stairs. Chloe went to the kitchen and found the biggest knife there was. Her mother gasped in fright when she saw the Master, then again when she saw Chloe's blackened eyes as Chloe approached her with the knife.
"Stop," said the Master. It had only been a test. "Don't kill her. I'm not a murderer. Turn her. Make her like you."
"Yes, Master," said Chloe. She grabbed her mother and threw her violently to the floor. She mounted her and black ink came from Chloe's mouth and into her mother's. The process took longer than it had when the Master had turned Chloe, but eventually her mother was an ink-eyed slave like Chloe.
"I live to serve, Master," said the mother.
"You are the second to be turned to my will, but Chloe will forever be the first and most favoured in my heart," said the Master. He loved Chloe.
"Of course, Master," said the mother. She then looked at Chloe. "I'm so proud of you, my daughter."
"Thank you, mother," said Chloe. So they did retain some of their old personalities. He was not a monster.
"Go," he said to the mother. "Go out into the street and turn the first person you see. And the second. And the third. Turn everyone you find and tell them to do the same. Put the desire in them. Make the world like me."
"Yes, Master," said the mother and she left. He looked at beautiful Chloe.
"I think I'm ready to make love to you now," he said. A tiny voice in his head was screaming at him that this was wrong. That he really was a monster. That he didn't deserve the love of any woman or anyone. But he could easily ignore it.
"My body is ready," she said. This felt so right. He didn't care if he was evil. Who was going to judge him?
"Actually, no," he said. "Make me a sandwich instead." Why had he said that? She went into the kitchen to make him a sandwich. He saw a cat come in through the cat door. It rubbed against Chloe's legs, then stopped. It looked up at her and hissed. He thought about ordering her to kill the cat. But then it stopped hissing and rubbed against her again.
"Good cat," she said.
"Well, what a day," said the echo of the Squidgod.
"The stars..."
"Some of the the Old Ones went to the stars. Those I could not defeat. They dreamed bigger than even me."
"And you're just telling me this now."
"It was a billion years ago. They are gone."
"They could come back. Once they find out what I'm doing here."
"It will take a long time to conver the whole world with your new method."
"I'm immortal. I have the time. My body doesn't hurt anymore, you know. I'm not dying like I feared."
"You're more powerful than ever."
"Is Chloe immortal too?"
"If you want her to be. She has your ink in her. When are you going to have sex with her, by the way?"
"Like I said....I have all the time in the world."
The sandwich tasted great.
