I want to smell dark matter
Chloe awoke on the beach to find the Squidinator was gone. She was not even surprised. She almost laughed. After all those years she'd finally had sex with him and he disappeared the next morning. The sex had been fine. Different than with a human, which she appreciated. His tentacles had come out at a key moment and they could...reach places. She knew he'd wanted her for a long time too. Hadn't he? Maybe he'd forgotten about all that. She almost had. She sighed. Another thing had ended. Her relationship with the Squidinator, just like that. Fetching him from his hole had just been a coda on their earlier relationship, she realised. A way to say good bye to an important part of her life. She was alone now.
She did find it strange that his clothes were lying on the beach. She followed the trail of them. He taken them off normally at first, but his trousers were torn. He had torn them off? Or...had he changed? She remembered the tentacles from last night. Had he transformed by surprise? And...the trail led to the sea. He'd turned into a squid and swam away.
She laughed at how absurd and yet true it was.
So what now? She gathered up the Squidinator's clothes for some reason. She didn't like mess. She at for a while until she saw a family walking down the beach. A husband, a wife, two children. She smiled at them as they walked by and they smiled back.
She thought about murdering them.
Why not? They were only human. She'd killed before. She'd watch people die too, people she'd loved. There wasn't much difference. Humans were born and they died. The time in between was nothing. Why not kill them? She could kill more too. Become a serial killer. The worst the world had ever seen. She thought about it before, in dark moments. She was alone now, alone and immortal...she had to do something to pass the time. Snap their necks. Make the parents watch their chldren die. She could do it...
She didn't, of course. Maybe in a few hundred years she would. She wasn't ready yet. She didn't want to cause unnecessary suffering, even if it was only to mortals. She was weak, small, she...
Her chest hurt. Was she having a panic attack again? She used to get those, back when she was still young. When she had first discovered what she was, that she wasn't aging. She'd panicked, knowing that she'd be found out. Knowing that she didn't belong. Knowing that nobody around her could even POSSIBLY understand because they weren't her, they weren't in her situation, they could never be in her situation. Feeling angry at them for not being like her, then feeling guilty about that anger. All of it had caused the panic attacks. But it had been over a hundred years since her last one...
She lay down on the beach until it went away.
So now what. She still had no answers. She couldn't find the Time Demon by herself, could she? It was an impossible task.
Maybe she should have killed that family after all...
No. Don't think that. She stood up. She thought of something. Her children. Her grandchldren. Her great grandchildren. And so on. She'd tried to forget them all, because it had hurt so much to know they existed but could never know her. But now she wanted to see them again. She wanted to see the humans that he come from her.
And she hoped she didn't feel the urge to kill them when she did.
