I want to smell dark matter
There had been a growing feeling in the Starwhale that something was wrong. It had been so small at first that the Starwhale hadn't even recognised it. It'd thought it was just a pain in its tail. Not even a pain, just a twitch. Nothing. But years went by. Centuries. The Starwhale travelled further into space. The cities on its back grew larger. And that feeling grew too. There was something wrong with reality. The Starwhale had always been able to vaguely feel when reality was altered. It was not able to actually do anything about it, but it could have a vague sense that something had changed. This must have been a huge change, for the Starwhale could feel it like it was physical pain. It new it was supposed to find something soon...
A spaceship. There was supposed to be a spaceship. The Starwhale could feel the spaceship entering its mouth. Living inside of its great belly. That spaceship was supposed to be a part of the Starwhale...
But it was nowhere to be found.
How could this be? How could the Starwhale know so clearly that there was supposed to be a spaceship here? It was as if it had already happened. As if it was a memory. But it couldn't be...
Then the Starwhale remembered the Time Demon, trapped in his box, on the Starwhale's back. He hadn't thought about the Time Demon for a long time. He'd thoroughly defeated the Time Demon and left him for a fate far worse than death. That had been the end of it. The Starwhale had almost forgotten the Time Demon was still alive. Yet the Time Demon had once been a being capable of altering reality.
The Starwhale entered the Time Demon's box with its mind. The Time Demon was sitting in the corner, hunched up. A pathetic creature now. Surely it knew nothing, yet the Starwhale felt the urge to ask...
"Where is my spaceship?"
"W...what? Where...when am I?"
"You are truly pathetic now. Do you not even remember who you are, and, more importantly, who I am?"
"You're...you're the Starwhale. Oh God no. What have you done to me. I can't be anywhere but here. This isn't supposed to be. Let me out. LET ME OUT."
"Calm yourself or I'll make your box even smaller."
"No, not smaller, NOT THAT."
"Tell me where my spaceship is."
"I don't know what the fuck you're talking about!"
"I was supposed to find a spaceship. Swallow it. I could sense it...taste it. Reality has been altered."
"I used to do that."
"Yes. Did you do it this time?"
"Not me...not...not this me..."
"So you do know something."
"A dream, is all. I dreamed of another me, living free. Back on Earth. Another me."
"Just wishful thinking."
"But I could...I could feel it. Feel what he felt. He was doing things that made no sense. I wouldn't do that...and I can feel it in me. And when you spoke of a spaceship, I saw one. Coming out of your mouth."
"You're just trying to trick me."
"I have no reason to! I know you'd never release me. But I saw it, Starwhale. The spaceship flew from your mouth and fired on the Earth. The Dark Earth. The Squidgod'd Earth..."
"Goodbye."
"Nooooooo..."
And the Starwhale was gone again, leaving the Time Demon to suffer more. The mention of a dark Earth had stirred somethign in him. And the Squidgod too. It had something to do with this. The Starwhale wanted answers. And there was only one place it would get them.
The Starwhale turned its massive body and began flying back towards Earth.
