I want to smell dark matter
The Squidinator did not like being underground. Even when he'd been the Squid God ina lost age he'd hardly spent any time underground. Of course that had partly been becasue he was so massive he couldn't enter any underground caves anyway. But there had been his mountain. He's rose that moutain high into the sky. Why? He couldn't quite remember. To look down on his land? Yes, partly. Or was he trying to get away from his beginnings? From the sea. He'd once lived in a cave, when he'd just been a normal squid. Maybe he'd be trying to get as far away as he could.
But now in his human body (or rather taking the shape of a human body) he was climbing down deep into the ground. He could not feel fear anymore. He had a single task. Find the Time Demon and kill him. Become the only power on Earth. And then become the only power in the universe.
He could feel the anomoly now, as if he was one of the drilling robots. He moved inside it. There was no time travel, just time displacement. And space displacement, he noted, for the bubble had been small on the outside but the lair inside was large. There were Time Slaves, but not the Time Demon himself. The Squidinator was not surprised.
"You!" cried a time slave.
"Me," said the Squidinator, turning it to dust with a single thought. The other time slaves scattered. He sighed lazily and killed all but one of them. They were nothing, anyway. Their very existence was unnatural. Their natural state was to be dust. He was simple freeing them to return to how they were meant to be.
"I'll never give up my master," said the remaining Time Slave, with pride.
"You don't have to," said the Squidinator. "I can enter what passes for your mind." And he did.
There was not much inside. The Time Slave was old. He had been around back when the Squidinator had been the Squid God. So old and yet so empty. The poor Time Slave had been driven insane by time torture and now it only existed to think one thought: to serve its master. The Squidinator found its last meeting with the Time Demon. It knew where the Time Demon had gone. The Squidinator smiled.
Chloe.
Of course. The three of them would be together in the end. The Squidinator wondered if the Time Demon knew that it was not operating by its own free will, not really. It was doing all it did according to fate. Destiny. The universe wanted the three of them together. And then there would be change. An ending? That was what the Time Demon wanted, but the Squidinator did not think it would happen that way. They would swim together once more in the Source. The Time Demon would try to kill him, he knew that. But the Squidinator would try to kill him too, so it was fair enough.
"You took all I am," said the Time Slave.
"Yes," said the Squidinator. "I hollowed you out to find what you knew."
"Put it...put it back in me," cried the slave.
"Why? You're free now."
"Then kill me like the others! I don't want to live if I can't serve Him."
"We're all puppets, dear slave. Even I in some way. But I'll let you in on a secret. Someone is pulling the strings. And I intend to be that someone. I will become the highest intelligence in the galaxy. And all of this, all that has ever happened or will happen, will be of my design."
"I don't understand," it sobbed. The Squidinator sighed and turned it to dust.
"And you never will."
