I want to smell dark matter
Are memories really us remembering what happend.
Or are we remembering remembering what happened.
Every time we remember do we change the memory a little?
I think so.
I don't think you can remember doing something.
You can just remember the memory you created of doing something.
Or something.
I'm just saying.
Don't trust memories.

Billy couldn't remember the last time he had unpaused time. He felt physical pain at even the thought of unpausing time again. What if he died? If time was moving, he could die. He couldn't unpause. Even though....there was nothing. He'd read every book he'd downloaded. Read everything on the internet. Made the perfect Mario Maker level. He hadn't uploaded it, of course, that would have meant unpausing time. Even if he had uploaded it he'd never have gotten any feedback on it because that would have required leaving time unpaused for days on end. He felt panic at the thought of that. He could never unpause time, not even for a second.
Is time only paused for me or is it paused for everyone else as well?
"How do you mean?" asked the voice. The voice was still there. He hadn't spoken to it in a long time, but it was still there.
You know exactly what I meant. You always know what I mean.
"You're asking if, when you pause time, does time pause for the rest of the world? But you already know to read new things on the internet, to upload your perfectly crafted Mario levels, you'd have to unpause time. So surely that would answer your question? If time was moving on for everyone else, then you wouldn't have to unpause it to see changes to the outside world. So logically the whole world is standing still now, waiting for you. They don't know, of course, they don't experience the pauses. But if you were to never unpause time again...then yes, there would be no more world. But why do you care? All you've ever cared about is yourself."
Billy held onto his pillow tigher. THat was what he'd feared the voice would say. Was the voice even real? Or was it just him. Was he really pausing time? What if this was just a dream. The kind of dream where it feels like a million years have passed but really no time at all has gone. He had no evidence. Except all the novels he'd written.
He tried to remember what real people were like in three dimensions.
He couldn't.
But he did not unpause time.
