I want to smell dark matter
He saw everything stand still, only for a moment. Then it was moving again. He felt strange, like he'd just woken up even though he hadn't shut his eyes. Had he truly travlled through time? The room looked different. But it was also dark. Then the light came on. A man walked towards him. He felt strangely reluctant to leave his machine.

"It's you!" he said. "My God, I just came on the offchance!"

"You...you're form the Daily Sport," the time traveller said.

"Yes! You remember me!" he said.

"Remember you? We just spoke yesterday...unless...did it work? Did I travel through time? Where's my girlfriend?"

"She...she didn't want anything to do with you. I last contact her a few months ago. She's getting married to someone else now."

"Well that's a bit sudden, it's only been a year," said the time traveller. Still, he couldn't blame her. He'd treated her appallingly. Yet it had been all worth it! He'd travelled through time. Why was there no one else here, he wondered.

"About that...you didn't show up," said the reporter. "A year ago. I came here, some scientists did too, your monitoring equipment was sending them interesting readings...but you didn't show up."

"But I set it for a year...are you saying it's been longer?" asked the time traveller.

"It's been two years to the day," said the journalist.

"What!"

"That's why I came, just to see if you'd reappear...the scientists said there was a chance, the temporal readings showed it was possible...or something...they'll be here soon, now that you're back."

"Two years...I don't know how that could have happened. What...who's the Prime Minister?"

"Ed Milliband."

"...really?"

"Well ever since he got that cybernetic implant..."

"What!"

"Only joking...it's only been two years, remember? Look, I have to call some people...should I call your ex?"

"I don't know...I want to see her, but...hang on, the machine's powering up."

"What's it doing, what's that noise?

"It's getting ready to time jump again! I can't stop it!"

"Turn it off!"

"I can't...something's gone wrong. First it jumped me too far and now this."

"But if it jumps again, there'll be no proof! Even the scientists will think it's just a hoax the two of us came up with if the actual machine isn't here! They'll think you were just in hiding or something."

"But the data..."

"The data's useless! STOP THE MACHINE! This is the biggest story ever and I'm not losing it!"

"I can't, it's going again..."

"Damn it!" The journalist started filming on his phone. "At least I'll get something out of this..."

"It's going to jump...and I am too."

"What! But you don't know where it'll end up!"

"I'm not letting my machine go without me! Besides, I have nothing here...I'll see you in another two years..."

"It could be longer!"

But the time traveller had already made up his mind. He sat back down in his machine and the world stopped moving again.
