I never gave my detailed thoughts on the collections, so...
Jeffrey: Liked the red & black striped dress, slightly reminiscent of Santino's signature dress last year. Liked the white pants & vest combo. The green striped dress was too Wizard of Oz/Chocolate Factory. The same fabric as a jacket was hideous, more barbershop quartet than edgy-chic. The rest of the line looks like it was made specifically for Britney Spears. Grade: C+
Laura: Liked the skimpy black/white number, also the flapper dress. Loved the beaded beige dress. The long gown would have been great if the band at the waist were anything but that ugly mustard gold color. The rest was eh, OK, but not surprising. Grade: B-
Michael: Wow, I can't believe how underwhelmed I am. A garish parade of rejected costumes from Pam Grier movies. Also, did he drink some of Uli's blood while she slept one night? Oy vey, the prints hurt my eyes. Michael Kors was right, stick to sportswear. I think my favorite outfit of his all season was the one he made for himself. Grade: D+
Uli: Loved Nazri in the green gown. Loved the long remake of her blue print outfit from the Final Four challenge. The rest, well, I could talk about things I liked on each but none of them grabbed me as a whole look. The line is still very Miami, except for the more conservative spangly separates, which actually made me yearn to return to Miami. Grade: B-
My winner? Hard to say, none of them took my breath away. Uli and Laura had less clunkers, but I wouldn't put much stock in them becoming the next Big Fashion designer, they won't stretch their imaginations enough to leave their comfort zones. Jeffrey has the imagination, but he "attitudes" half his stuff to death, and too much of it has looked costumey. Michael is just too green, even moreso than Daniel V was last year.
I'd say give it to Uli on the condition that she move to New York and not party, have sex, or tan for a year. She needs another view on life to fuel her design urges. Otherwise, be safe and give it to Laura and hope she gets Joan Collins' number soon.
