The instructor said that I should have done a thicker layer of chocolate shavings. To make the color solid.

what did you do for the bottom layer?
Mine doesnt look anything like that.
I put my coffee/Kalua-soaked lady-fingers on the bottom and then some of the marscapone/heavy cream layer, shaved chocolate, then repeat the layers and finish off with sifted cocoa on top.

in that picture it was just layered very evenly. it also looks like a pre-made bottom made just for tiramisu

the bottom is a thin layer of jocunde sponge cake that is 3 inches wide, set into a mylar cylinder.
The layers of ladyfingers and marscapone were set inside that bottom part.

It was finger/cheese/finger/cheese/the rest of the cheese/topping.

All of it was from scratch, but over two days.
