Eidos Interactive Ltd., one of the world's leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, today confirms that the next Tomb Raider game will be entitled; Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary and is set for release on PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable (PSP) and PC in 2007.
Inspired by the first Tomb Raider video-game, originally released in 1996, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary is a totally new 2006 adventure for Lara, faithfully preserving the elements which made the original Tomb Raider such a classic, selling over 7 million copies worldwide.

Using an enhanced Tomb Raider Legend game engine, the graphics, technology, physics and engine bring Lara Croft's adventure and pursuit of a mystical artefact known only as the Scion right up to today's technology standards and will offer gamers a completely new gameplay experience.

"Over the years we have had literally thousands of requests to re-make the original Tomb Raider for today's gamer, we have gone a step further, we have taken the original story and made a completely new version for Tomb Raider: Anniversary." said Kathryn Clements, Senior Brand Manager, Eidos.

"We are re-telling an incredible story using today's technology, we've taken all of the key moments from the original game and put them into the context of a brand new Tomb Raider adventure which will make fans of the franchise extremely happy but also attract a completely new audience."

"We've captured the essence of what made the original game so special and with today's technology, created a game that pushes the boundaries of the current gaming consoles. Tomb Raider :Anniversary is a special celebration of Lara's reign as videogaming's leading lady" said Ian Livingstone, Eidos.
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary is currently in development by Crystal Dynamics and will be available in 2007 on PlayStation 2, PSP and PC.

I'm not exactly a huge Tomb Raider fan although I loved the originals. I got the first game on the day of release back in 96 for the PS1. It still holds up in many ways today.

I remember playing 2 and 3 and then I stopped caring about the franchise.

But with Anniversary (that has just been released) I am definitley hyped up for it.

It's a remake of the first game.

That's all I needed to know. The first game is the shizzle and to remake it as a next-gen title is awesome.

I've been playing it for a few hours so far and I'm still in Croft Manor but it's a very purdy game. The graphics are sweet (as are the physics) and somehow Crystal Dynamics have managed to keep the game at a very minimum spec. It will actually run on a 64mb gfx card and still look great.

Since my desktop computer is a ninja PC and will tear through anything I put it on my far more modestly specced laptop and it still runs like a dream. Nice coding.

Nice game.

I'll get it for Wii if it's any good and if it's released on Wii and if I ever get a Wii.

I played the original again recently and couldn't believe how crap it was. The picture was incredibly pixelated and the movement sucked. Just shows how much games have moved on that people were impressed by it back then.

I remember it being great. Then again I haven't played it in years and years so I have no doubt that I'm remembering it as better than it is.

This new one rocks the casbah though.

Mario 64 would probably be shit if you played it today. BUT IT'S NOT.

I played Tomb Raider Legend and it was so much better than Angel of Darkness it was crazy.

I'm not sure if I'll get Anniversary as my PC can barely run Legend, but I hear a Wii version is in the works and I will get that (because I have a Wii).

OH YOU DO, DO YOU

My Wii glows would you like to touch it?

If you mean your penis...then yes.

No I mean my Nintendo Gaming Console.

I just started playing through the Demo (which is on STEAM btw) and it's nice and all. I mean there's a stupid "depth of field" effect that does nothing but make everything blurry (sorry, 'next-gen') and kills my FPS. But turning it off and it's good ol' Big-Boobs and her adventures killing endangered animals.

Although it runs okay on my PC (which is crappy) I might just wait and see what features the Wii version will offer, and I hate to say it but it will probably look better on it than on my PC (as it's a damn PS2 game and the Wii wipes the floor with PS2 graphics).

Really 'ought to get around finishing Legend though...

I never liked the control scheme of tomb raider or resident evil

and I've been total PS since FFVII
