I don't know anything about him beside what they said in the VT, but it sounds like he went to jail for fighting the government over tax, which should earn some applause.

Err, there's quite a big difference between him and a terrorist.

He was most recently in the news for a libel suit against a newspaper where he fired his whole legal staff, defended himself...and still won. He's a good speaker.

I wasn't comparing the two, I know jack-squat about the regional politics over there.

I just meant that they reached out into a strange area of "celebrity" to grab houseguests this time 'round.

Yeah, having politicians on there is always odd. They previously had George Galloway, who's a vehement anti-war protester (among other things) and was an MP at the time. He didn't come out of it very well as far as fellow politicians were concerned, and I'm not sure the public warmed to him much. Tommy summed it up best when he said "celebrity" wasn't the right word to call him, "well known" probably was.

Tommy is mates with Galloway and he mentioned last night that Galloway was naive thinking he could go in and make political broadcasts and change the way young people think. Galloway had just spoken in front of the US Senate not long before he went in so he was quite big in the news at the time...Tommy's only really well known in Scotland, I'm sure a lot of the English viewers have no idea who he is.

I recognised his name, but I don't know where from. I've seen Galloway speak at a few anti-war demos, so it's possible I've seen Tommy Sheridan too, but I don't recall him. So he's not going to try to put a message across, he's just there for himself? Fair enough. Same as the rest of them.
