I want to smell dark matter
I'm branching out into new lists! Except this one is pretty pointless and all the episodes are great and most of these rankings are pretty arbitrary. ANYWAY.
12) The Builders - The O'Reilly character felt like he didn't quite fit in the Fawlty Towers, to me. WORST EPISODE EVER (which is still better than every episode of every other tv show ever, probably.)
11) A Touch Of Class - The first ever episode isn't as laugh out loud hilarious as some of the others, but Basil's grovelling to the upper class guest (WHO'S A CON MAN OOPS SPOILERS) provides good cringeworthy amusement.
10) Waldorf Salad - This one feels a bit stretched out. The ending is good though.
"I'm not satisfied!"
"Well people like you never are."
9) The Kipper and the Corpse - Why did Basil tell Polly to get Manuel out of the hamper to get the guests's hat instead of just telling Polly to get the hat? The Doctor and his sausages is classic.
8) The Wedding Party - How could Basil mistake Cybil's voice for the french woman's distinctive voice? THE ONLY FLAW IN AN OTHERWISE CLASSIC SCENE.
7) Basil The Rat - "Did you want a rat? Just the biscuits then?"
6) The Psychiatrist - Basil tapping on the windows then falling backwards on the ladder, his crazy frog hop at the end, old mother Johnson...TOP SIX.
5) Gourmet Night - The "I'm going to give you a damn good thrasing!" scene lifts this one up considerably.
4) The Anniversary - The ending with him walking Cybil into the fridge amidst the chaos is classic. And everything Roger says. "Cyb-Ill, eh Bas?"
3) The Hotel Inspectors - An excellent guest appearance by Bernard Cribbins, the "there, I've torn it up, you'll never see it again" line about the omlette and some of the best physical comedy in the whole series.
2) The Germans - CONTROVERSIAL SECOND PLACE!? Obviously it's an absolute comedy tour de force with Basil's "funny walk" probably being the funniest moment in the history of television. You naughty moose!
1) Communications Problems - Just the absolute best, funniest, best plotted episode ever. The way everything comes together in the end, the classic "hordes of wilderbeast sweeping majestically..." line, the best guest character in Mrs Richards, Basil's rant on Mrs Richards ending with "I'll visit you in the middle of the night and put a bat up your nightdress", Manuel's "I know nothing!" revenge, the charads scene ("flying tart!"), the major at his best, Cybil throwing coffee in Basil's face, Basil giving her the "shirt off his back" and headbutting the till open...YOU CAN'T DENY IT.
