True Blood 7x10 'Thank You'

CaptainWacky

I want to smell dark matter
More like "Fuck You" am I right?

I was wondering just how bad it would be, but I never thought they'd go for "ridiculously boring" more than actively bad. I mean it was actively bad too, but mainly what I felt during it was sleepy.

So most of the episode in Sookie trying to decide if she should kill Bill or not. It's pretty dull. Then she starts hearing his thoughts I and thought "ah, so Bill's actually going to turn into a human in the end in a nonsensical twist!" At least that would have been keeping with the tone of True Blood. But no, she just...kills him. And that's it. So why could she hear his thoughts? Who cares, I guess. What's the message here? The only way to end a relationship is to murder your partner? Was anyone satisfied by this?

Hoyt is apparently fine with marrying someone who erased his memories. He doesn't even ask if she can give him his memories back. But I'm sure their marriage will work out this time just because...it's the final and it has to.

Erik just effortlessly kills the Japanese guys like we want him to do last week. Why didn't he do this three episodes ago? Who knows! Why is he back at Fangtasia (in obvious stock footage) at the end when he's a millionaire now? Who knows! At least Sarah ended up being horribly tortured for the rest of her life. That's a really nice thing to have as one of the final scenes.

Layfayette didn't have one line (or even a close-up?) Sucks if he's your favourite character! Sam shows up for a few seconds (and Willa!) Sucks if he was your favourite character. The point of the flashforward was...they all got married and had kids? That's the only way anyone can be happy I guess. Thank for nothing, True Blood.

Yeah, that was a pretty lame finale. The show has never portrayed Sookie as someone who desperately wanted a bunch of babies (I think she did want babies in the books), so her ending was kinda unsatisfying. They should have shown us Lafayette being happy with his hot vampire boyfriend :rwmad: I was alright with Hoyt and Jessica.

Bill's death was weird. Were we supposed to be on his side because he has a right to die? It just came off like suicide instead. When Godric met the sun, it was much more understandable because he'd been alive for a really long time, he was fucking tired of it all. Bill's reason for dying didn't make a lot of sense.

Wacky summed it up 10 times better than I did.

HALF THE EPISODE spent on Hoyt and Jessica -- what the flippety fuck with that. Was that all just a long drawn out setup so that Sookie killing Bill out of "love" would make more sense? SORRY BZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Sookie stakes Bill, and the main thought I remember having was "She ruined her best dress -- she really looked good in that dress." Also that she was kind of selfish to not give up her powers to give the love of her life a less painful death, but she was more than willing to stake the fuck out of him. Bill and Alcide can spend eternity playing cards and talking about what a fake bitch she was.

Irony Dept.: This finale was a lot like Six Feet Under's finale (another Alan Ball show), in that it spent its last episode watching all its characters heal and get happier. It worked for SFU because a) the show was more grounded in reality and we had just spent 5 years watching these poor people in all kinds of inner torment, and b) Alan Ball stayed with the show till the end.

With TB, the finale came across as completely false because a) they had no terrific ending device like SFU's character obituaries, and b) Alan Ball didn't come back to write or direct the final episodes.

The last three seasons at least have been a snore fest. This last season has been nothing short of dreadful. Another show that peaked early, and didn't have a clue or plan where to go after a short time. Meh.

Bill kills himself because he doesn't want Sookie ending up with a vampire, but is fine with his vampire daughter marrying a human...
