Turkey Day with the Family.

Mirah

I love you
Day one
Drove south for the first leg of my journey and ran into traffic and fatigue
Stopped for a nap and got back on the road
completing my destination at a swanky hotel
with room service
and one fit for my needs.
Day two
I woke in a groggy state determined to beat traffic
Made a fluid check and got back on the road stopping at my second destination
the mom
This is really the best destination there is, I didn't want to leave.
But I did, making it toward my third destination following backroads avoiding freeways and reported accidents
making it in to Portland just as it was getting dark.
Tessa was waiting for me outside, her parents whom I have always considered to be like mine had already arrived and came to say hello.
We ate dinner and conversed and I retired to my room

Day three Part one
Made the mistake of getting into political discourse with Tessa's parents over breakfast. At least now I know where they stand and they know where I stand. I was disapointed, but I still love them, just as they proffessed to "love the sinner, hate the sin"

Part two
Went over to my relatives and had a relaxing time, low key, no drama, great food and great walk. I am totally stuffed now. Tessa wants to go shopping tomorrow I told her I don't like to shop and in fact I avoid the malls from This day until the day just before Christmas. I spend the next 4 weeks trying to figure out how I can get out of Christmas and shopping. At my relatives house I spot a book by John Grisham titled, "Skipping Christmas" I feel a sense of relief and now have added that book and "The Mother Tongue, English and how it got that way" by Bill Bryson to my list of books to read.

After dinner we listened to relatives tell stories and it was pure joy and I laughed so hard. One of my cousins had once protested Watts and it was in the paper. Stories of growing up and going to school and getting into trouble and drinking poisons, it is amazing any of them survived.

Turkey Day with the family, day one: Drove 5 minutes to my oldest brother's house. Watched football, drank beer, ate turkey and the trimmings. The End.

Day Four
Woke up and Tessa was gone. She loves shopping. I don't. I showered and headed back over to my other relatives house. My mom was there along with the older generations of the family. More food was served in a casual setting and more family arrived that weren't present the day before. My friend arrived after braving the stores, which she said were not very busy at all. I hate shopping and avoid the stores from this day until just before the "C" word day. "Happy 'C' word." Maybe that is what I should say to people now.
Tick Tock Tick Tock Tick Tock
How do people sleep next to these clocks?
Why are people's houses so cold?
Why are some people such awesome hosts and other people suck at it? I am glad my family knows how to be good hosts, that is where I learned it from.

Day Five
Drove back to mom's house from Portland on Saturday, attended a memorial service and stayed at my moms for the evening. We worked on sewing projects and watched the huskies rip apart the cougars.
Day Six
Drove back home. (3 hours 24 minutes 199 miles) I drove a total of 695 miles this week. I got lucky today, weather was great and both mountain passes were free of snow.
I feel like I actually had a real vacation. I haven't had this much time off in a while and I am glad I got to see friends and relatives.
