Is there a Jamie Bell fan in here? Personally, I'm all about Burn Gorman, he's excellent in this. So far, so good.

I'm the Jamie Bell fan -- and I've been watching the show, sort of.

It's a fairly earnest historical drama that tries to make itself more interesting by giving the characters occasionally snarky dialogue. Considering we know what happens in the end, they could have done a little more to make the moments a little more compelling. I like this era in history but it's difficult to do it without it seeming like a school filmstrip. But if you stray to far from our perceived notions of historical accuracy for the era, it seems lampoonish. It's an extra slim needle to thread.

Maybe it will get better with time, but I strongly believe it won't have the usual multi-season run of other AMC shows. But I'll probably come to appreciate it more in the future when I actually devote more attention to it -- there's a lot of TV to get through on Sunday nights, even with DVR.
