While Russia has retreated on the ground, it has continued to strike Ukraine with Iranian-made Shahed drones, terrifying civilians and repeatedly knocking out water, power and heat as winter sets in. Nevertheless they intend to table a resolution to the Security Council and when it is shot down, seek support from the general assembly of all UN members. One EU official said they expect “good enough numbers” to support the proposal. Uncertainties also surround the proposed money for Ukraine.

Australia, Britain, Canada, Japan, the United States and the 27-nation European Union agreed Friday to cap what they would pay for Russian oil at $60-per-barrel. The limit is set to take effect Monday, along with an EU embargo on Russian oil shipped by sea. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia needed to analyze the situation before deciding on a specific response but that it would not accept the price ceiling. Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, warned that the cap's European backers would come to rue their decision.

Russia strikes again at Ukraine's energy system, but damage is limited​


A new wave of Russian airstrikes Monday knocked out electricity and water in a number of Ukrainian cities where residents are coping with sub-freezing temperatures, Ukrainian officials said. However, the damage was substantially less than in the last big Russian attack, on Nov. 23, or some of the other air assaults by Russia against the power grid over the past two months. Moldova, which is on the southwest border of Ukraine, did not immediately say whose missile it was. The possibilities include a Russian missile that veered off course, or a Ukrainian missile that was trying to take down the incoming Russian fire.

Russia oil price cap launch gives G7 leverage -U.S. Treasury official​


Western powers' leverage over Russia has increased with their $60-a-barrel price cap on Russian crude oil, and any adjustments to the limit will consider a range of factors from Russian and global economic conditions to oil markets, a U.S. Treasury official told Reuters on Tuesday. The price cap was imposed on Monday by the G7 industrial democracies and Australia at a level above the current price for Urals crude from Russia, the world's second largest oil exporter. The cap aims to both cut Russian revenues from oil price spikes caused by its war on Ukraine, and ensure that Russian oil continues to flow to buyers including China and India, keeping global market prices under control. The $60 limit on Russia's seaborne oil exports is to be reviewed every two months, and while the G7 is slated to start reviewing the level in mid-January, the Treasury official said there was no precise date on when the price cap level would be adjusted. The official added that G7 countries and Australia would be busy in coming weeks determining two more price cap levels on Russian refined oil products slated to be in place by Feb. 5.

Oleksandra Matviichuk of Ukraine’s Center for Civil Liberties dismissed calls for a political compromise that would allow Russia to retain some of the illegally annexed Ukraine territory, saying that “fighting for peace does not mean yielding to pressure of the aggressor, it means protecting people from its cruelty.” “Peace cannot be reached by a country under attack laying down its arms,” she said, her voice trembling with emotion. “This would not be peace, but occupation.” Matviichuk was named a co-winner of the 2022 peace prize in October along with Russian human rights group Memorial and Ales Bialiatski, head of the Belarusian rights group Viasna. Later on Saturday, the other Nobel prizes will be formally presented during a ceremony in Stockholm.

When that horror show is over, Russia will have to pay for the restoration of Ukraine. Russia will also be embroiled in war crimes prosecutions. USA's war industry will make tons of money replacing the items supplied to Ukraine from USA military's war arsenal. Russia will have to pay back all the countries that contributed to Ukraine's defense. This will be a shit show that will last long after I have shuffled off this mortal coil to engage in my next life as a space whale exploring the universes. Personally, I think Ukraine and NATO should burn Russia to the ground and give that charred carcass to China for the price to repay all those who contributed to Ukraine's defense, the cost to rebuild Ukraine, and huge amounts of money in annual installments to be paid to every single person in Ukraine and their heirs for at least one hundred years. Personally, I'd like to get in a tank and ride into Moscow with a force of at least a hundred thousand tanks and just shell the place to ruins - just leave it in a bloody heap of rubble. And, if the powers that be want to make me truly happy, then Trump, all of his lunatic followers, and all those election deniers would be in Moscow and destroyed at the same time. I know.
