Can I have Ops?
I am watching a television programme!

I can't tell you how rare this is really. I don't actually watch anything but films and TV series DVD's now. Considering the last DVD set I watched was Series 1 GOT you can see that I don't watch them very much either.

Anyway - Utopia is dark, unexpected, violent and extremely well written. There are many performances I like, but Arby (The overweight, lethargic killer) stands out.

Here is the blurb.

When five strangers from an online comic book forum agree to meet after gaining possession of the original manuscript for the cult graphic novel 'The Utopia Experiments', they find themselves pursued by a shadowy organisation known as The Network who are in pursuit of the manuscript - and they are prepared to kill to track it down.

While three of the forum members - Ian, Becky and Wilson meet in the pub, another is confronted and killed by two Network henchmen. The only witness to the murder is 11-year-old Grant - the fifth forum member - and when he flees with the manuscript, the henchmen give chase.

Ian and Becky soon find they've been set-up for crimes they haven't committed, while Wilson's hacking skills attract the attention of Network henchmen Arby and Lee. As the trio's lives begin to fracture, the world of civil servant Michael Dugdale is also torn apart as he is blackmailed by The Network.

Just as things are looking increasingly desperate for Ian, Becky and Wilson, they come face to face with an enigmatic stranger who claims to offer them a way out.

And then we have the real reason I am watching. Fiona O'Shaughnessy

WELL as I said in Conchaga's thread (in the Media Center!) I saw the advert then forgot to watch and also it seemed to have Welsh people in it and I hate Welsh people. But you've done quite a job selling it so I might catch up with it NEXT WEEK or something!

Welsh people were invented by MI5 in the 70s to explain mutilated sheep from genetic testing.

Everybody knows that.

I've been watching it. I'm actually a bit on the fence so far. Everyone I know has been raving about it and it's the same on twitter, but it left me a bit cold. The story is a fairly familiar Enemy of the State type setup, where some people have inadvertently got their hands on some material that the powers that be will stop at nothing to wrestle from them. Interspersed is deadpan humour, torture and British eccentrics.

The best thing about it so far has been the acting of the boy playing Grant. In fact, his performance was so good that at first I thought the character was an old person trapped in the body of a child. But no, he's just played by a rare thing, a child who doesn't make you cringe so hard you turn inside out.

Well I kept watching Misfits even after all the original cast members were dead and the writing was terrible, so I MIGHT STILL CHECK THIS OUT SOMETIME AS I KEEP SAYING.

I missed the beginning of this weeks which was apparently SHOCKING AND DARK.

It certainly isn't pulling any punches. The scene where he says that his wife will be raped... violently and many times... before Friday. it was the addition of the specific "before Friday" that made it so well written and horrific. Like an appointment.

Incredibly, they managed to do a scene with an 11 year old boy being fed alcohol in a dingy hotel room with a weird woman and it DID NOT come across as sexual. It came across as... emptiness with maternal overtones.

I'm enjoying it.

I watched the first episode. It was interesting. I mean I don't really know what was going on but it kept my attention. Hopefully the story will hold together. The Welsh woman wasn't even annoying.

It's good in bits now. The weird thing is that I am really not that fussed about the main storyline. The "big corporation / Dan Brown organisation thing" killing off certain people is all a bit shit. It's the individual performances that are winning for me.

Raisin Boy - RB - Arby - whoda thunk it?
I am loving this very vulnerable menace killing people randomly. I also like how even the REALLY evil people are scared of him.

Jessica Hyde - She can hold a gun to my head and kiss me if she wants.

Wilson Wilson - Still like him, despite being given some crap lines this week.

Welsh Girl - as Wacky says, every thing in my entire being should hate her (Moaning, Welsh accent etc.) but she is playing it well.

Little Girl having breakdown - she was a bit shit actually, but then she is playing opposite Grant, so that is hard to act with I imagine.

Will continue watching, but could randomly stop at any moment.

I've seen the third episode now. The cinematogrophy and acting are still really good, but the main story isn't really that compelling. Like I'm not really sure what Mr Rabbit is supposed to be? Oh but Jessica's name is Jessica so that makes me think JESSICA RABBIT so I've solved Lost!

Fifth episode was...okay. Except for the scene with Arby eating. I hate it when people eat on tv shows. It should be illegal.

PREDICTION: asshole scientist guy who just wants money is Mister Rabbit.

The shot when Arby crashed the car, got out and shot the people was very well done. It seemed like it was all one shot. Quite curious how it was done.

Otherwise I wasn't crazy about the episode, but it's still watchable.

The whole "super villain actually wants to kill lots of people to SAVE THE WORLD" thing is kind of played out too.
