I want to smell dark matter
Remember when I said I'd start reviewing things? I'm starting! With three "adult" comedies I've watched since Christmas.
I'm always hesitant to watch "modern" comedy movies because I get the suspicion that I'm not going to like them. I remember EVERYONE on the internet saying that THE HANGOVER was the greatest comedy ever and that I watched it (ages after it came out, of course)...and laughed about three times. And two of those were at Ken Jeong's naked asian man act.
I watched Horrible Bosses because I remembered Menty mentioning it in chat and even saying something bizarre about Jennifer Anniston being hot. I actually quite liked it! Nothing amazing but quite a few amusing parts and never boring. I literally laughed at times. The three leads (including Arrested Development's Jason Bateman) interacted well together, though the shouty one was a bit annoying sometimes. Kevin Spacey and an unrecognisable Colin Farrell were a LOT OF FUN as two of the "horrible bosses." And Jennifer Anniston? Well, she is in great shape for her age and I can see how her body would be seen as hot. But...her face is still Jennifer Anniston's face. Or Jennifer Anniston's face after lots of cosemtic surgery anyway. If you want to watch a 90 minute comedy sometime I'd recommend it, probably!
I watched Bridesmaids because I remembered it getting good reviews and I had nothing else to do. I did end up liking it, but I'm sure I would have liked it better if I was a woman. It was more a chick flick disguised as a grossout adult comedy. A lot of the comedy bits felt tacked on. Some were funny, some weren't. The actual emotional parts were better. Kristen Wiig was very good and likable as the lead character. But holy shit is she skinny. Like, remember how everyone used to say Rose Byrne was annoerix? Kristen Wiig looked really skinny even next to Rosye Byrne! That's skinny. Oh, and Rose Byrne was excellent as the nasty one and she's quite hot. And Roy from the IT Crowd was the romantic lead, which was weird! Strongly recommended if you're a girl, mildly recommended if you're not.
I watched The Change Up because I'd read about Olivia Wilde having CG nipples in it and because Big Brother had finished. It really wasn't very good. It had the most "grossout" comedy of the three movies and it just felt stupid to me and left me thinking "that's stupid" instead of laughing. Like a CG baby playing with knives and sticking its tongue in an electrical socket. Or shooting shit into Arrested Development's Jason Bateman's face. It didn't work for me. And yes, there is a brief glimpe of Olivia's sideboob with CG nipples, but there's also a really stupid scene with Leslie Mann walking around naked in slow motion for some reason. Except her breasts are either CG or prosethtics and it looks really stupid. Then she does a big shit, because that's hilarious! The second part of the movie where they actually added an EMOTIONAL CORE to the storyline was a bit better and the actors did a fairly good job and there were some nice scenes with Ryan Reynolds and his daughter (well, Jason Bateman's daughter. It's a body swap movie. Didn't I mention that?) But you have to go through a lot of crap (literally!) to get to the decent parts. On the plus side, Olivia Wilde is really really hot. But I do not recommend this movie.
