I want to smell dark matter
Various movies I watched AT SOME POINT in 2019 which I never posted about because I had nothing interesting to say but maybe I stick all these not interesting comments together it'll be worth a thread.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse - It was very good, like everyone said. The art style and animation were very impressive. Nope, nothing interesting to say here, moving on...
Kong: Skul Island - I only watched this because it was on Amazon Prime and I thought "I should watch something on Amazon Prime since I pay for it." It was pretty good looking and there were some decent action bits, like Kong destroying helicopters and stuff, but overall it was meh. Kong didn't have as much personality as in the Peter Jackson one and I don't like how he's Godzilla sized now just because they want him to fight Godzilla as part of their forced shared universe. John C. Reilly's character was the only one who got any kind of story. I think Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston were supposed to be the leads but their characters didn't actually do much. Not really recommended.
Split - I watched this because people said it's good and I like James McAvoy. And he was good going Full McAvoy playing various different personalities in entertaining fashion. Anya-Taylor Joy was good too. But was the story actually good? Did it make any fucking sense? I'm not sure. The ending (spoiler) where he didn't kill her because she used to self harm was kind of weird. But it's definitely not boring.
The LEGO Batman Movie - It was fun. Pretty much what you'd expect. I do feel like they shouldn't have done the thing where (LEGO) villains from other movies showed up at the end because it was fine as just a Batman movie. And it had Daleks in it but they kept calling them "British robots" instead of just "Daleks" and that was dumb. BUT WIll Arnett is just great as LEGO Batman and had fun chemistry with Michael Cera as Robin and it the ending was really quite touching considering it was all made out of fucking LEGO.
Blade Runner 2049 - I liked it. Beautiful looking and great acting from Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas. Harrison Ford shows up late but luckily he seemed to give a shit about the material and was good too. I guess if you don't like long movies that spend a lot of time establishing mood and stuff then you wouldn't like it.
John Wick 3: Parabellum - A slight disappointment compared to the first two and I'm not even sure why. Keanu's as cool as ever, the acton's still great (he kills a guy with a book!), Halle Berry with her attack dogs was a fun addition...but some it just felt a bit boring? There was not plot AT ALL so it was kind of hard to care about anything and I still think the first one worked the best because there were actual personal stakes (Theon Greyjoy killed his dog!) This one relied a lot on the lore of the assassin society and maybe I'm just not as into that. Still definitely worth watching if you liked the first two though.
