The attorney for Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder reiterated Monday that Snyder would not testify before Congress on June 22, despite a request from the committee to reconsider. Karen Patton Seymour declined the initial invitation from the House Oversight Committee investigating the Commanders' alleged "toxic workplace culture," saying that Snyder had a "longstanding Commanders-related business conflict" and is out of the country at the end of June. Seymour had also requested copies of documents that committee members intend to use in their questioning.

House committee accepts Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder's offer to testify but only under subpoena

The House Committee on Oversight and Reform accepted Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder's offer to testify via video conference on July 28, but said he could not do it voluntarily as his attorney had requested. In a letter Tuesday from Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney (D-New York) to Snyder's attorney, Karen Patton Seymour, the committee said it would accept his testimony only under a subpoena. The committee reissued a subpoena for Snyder and gave his attorney a noon deadline on Wednesday to accept. The committee had first issued a subpoena on June 24 for a deposition six days later, but that subpoena was not accepted. Maloney wrote that the committee wants Snyder to testify under a subpoena to ensure that his "testimony will be full and complete and will not be restricted in the way it would be if the deposition were conducted voluntarily."

Attorney: Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder won't testify under subpoena

Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder's attorney rejected the House Oversight committee's reasoning for wanting him to testify under a subpoena later this month, reiterating that he would do so voluntarily. In a letter, attorney Karen Patton Seymour called the committee's concerns that her client would withhold information if not testifying under a subpoena "baseless." On Tuesday, Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) accepted Snyder's offer to testify July 28 via videoconference, but said in a letter to Seymour that the committee would issue a subpoena and wanted a response from Snyder by noon today.

Lawyer worried Dan Snyder got client names via NFL's probe

In a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday, an attorney for four dozen former Washington Commanders employees raised "serious concern" that the NFL violated "a very specific promise" of confidentiality that was made to her clients before they testified to investigators about Dan Snyder and the team's toxic workplace culture. Lisa Banks, the Washington, D.C., lawyer, cited an ESPN reported last week that the Commanders' lawyers used NFL investigator Beth Wilkinson's inquiry as a "tip sheet" to compile an "enemies list" that was used by Snyder's law firm to commission private investigations and "harass" her clients, including former team cheerleaders and other former employees.

Colts owner Jim Irsay says merit to oust owner Daniel Snyder

For the first time, an NFL owner publicly has called for serious consideration to remove Washington's Dan Snyder from NFL ownership. Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay held an explosive interview scrum at the fall meetings and called Snyder's missteps as owner, particularly with workplace misconduct, "gravely concerning." "I believe there is merit to removing him as owner of the [Commanders]," Irsay said from the hotel lobby of the Conrad New York Downtown. "There's consideration that he should be removed." The league requires 24 of 32 owners to approve such a vote, which never has been done at the NFL level. Irsay said that no vote will take place at Tuesday's meetings and that owners need to hear more about where the investigation stands.

Face it, Dan Snyder. You're done as owner of the Washington Commanders | Opinion

Whether it takes three months or three years, Dan Snyder is done as owner of the Washington Commanders. He can leave with his reputation -- what's left of it, at least -- intact. Or he can fight his fellow owners, dragging the team and league he supposedly loves so much even further into his self-made swamp of fetid muck. Either way, the result will be the same: Snyder several billion dollars richer and someone else owning the Commanders. Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was the only one to publicly call out Snyder on Tuesday and acknowledge the damage he’s been done to all 32 teams. But make no mistake, Irsay was saying what other owners, probably many of them, are thinking and, in the process, sent Snyder the message that it’s time for him to go.

How a disputed $55M loan plays into feds' probe of Commanders

DANIEL SNYDER'S FINAL breakup from his longtime minority partners in Washington's NFL franchise began with a footnote in an April 2020 financial report. The note revealed a $55 million credit line the team had taken out 16 months earlier without the knowledge and required approval of Snyder's minority partners -- the three billionaires who owned 40% of the franchise, according to documents obtained by ESPN. During a confidential arbitration, the former partners demanded that the NFL investigate the origin of Snyder's loan. But neither NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, whose signature granted league approval for the team to take on the new debt, nor the NFL arbitrator investigated the partners' allegation of financial wrongdoing, according to hundreds of pages of confidential NFL arbitration documents obtained by ESPN and more than a dozen interviews.
