I want to smell dark matter
So all those complaints I read about the pacing and lack of action were...actually completely accurate.
The racetrack scene is really good, but then it goes ultra slow for an hour. AND YES, I appreciate character stuff but it could have been done in a more compelling way. Mickey Rourke's character isn't really a very memorable villain at all. Justin Hammer is better but there's too many bits of him just talking on and on.
And really after all that they should have delivered a better finale but the fight between Iron Man, War Machine and Whiplash lasts literally less than a minute, which is kind of pathetic. There must be something wrong when the action scene with Black Widow is far more enjoyable than the actual Iron Man bits (and Black Widow is given literally no character other than "she's a SHIELD agent". But ScarJo was really good with what she had.)
I'd still classify it as good and worth watching and Robert Downey is as good as ever, but it could have been so much better.
