Watched The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

I want to smell dark matter
It was okay.

I love the books (well, the first three). The original tv series was pretty good (but Trillian was awful in it). Haven't heard the radio version (which people say is the best.)

I know there's changes between each version of the story so I didn't mind that, I liked that they tried to have a more coherant plot in the movie with a more satisfying ending.

The acting was generally good: Martin Freeman was okay, Mos Def was good at first (but seemed to fade into the background later), Sam Rockwell was ANNOYING AS FUCK as Zaphod (I suppose that's what they were going for...I always found Zaphod cooler than this retareded version though) and Zooey Deschanel was a million times better than the tv version (AND HOT AS FUCK).

Special effects were pretty great, especially the "shop floor" scene.

One problem: it wasn't funny. I think I only laughed out loud once (when Marvin said "I've seen it. It's rubbish".) The line delivery felt wrong on a lot of the iconic lines and a lot of the jokes seemed too rushed. I know it's a movie and different from books and tv and everything (LIKE I SAID ABOVE, PAY ATTENTION) I just would have liked it to be funnier.

I felt pretty much exactly the same way. It's hard for a movie to compete with a book you've read thirty odd times... but they could have tried a smidgen harder (easy for me to say, I know).

The one bit I did like a lot was anything to do with the Guide itself. I thought they pulled that off smashingly.

No QED in the movie until the credits. That made me pissed. Warrick in yet another role where we don't get to see him, poor little Wicket.

It was just ok. It certainly wasn't bad, but meh, I prefer the books and of course the radio plays which I have somewhere around here, I should have a look for them.

Yeah, the radio plays kick ass. I always get to the last ep and forget that it just kinda quits midstream. BOO, I shout.

I mostly disagree, I thought the movie was charming.

But then I only read the book ONCE!

AH!H!!A!

But seriously when they all turned into yarn I about pissed myself from laughing. I dunno, I had pretty low expectations, so I thought it was pretty brilliant in a low-key way.

OH YEAH, the bit when they turned into puppets was imaginative and funny and raised a smile, as did the part when they were sofas. It's just hard to get me to laugh out loud unless I'm "in tune" with what I'm watching and I guess I wasn't.

ZOOEY did rock the box.

YES AS WELL, I forgot that the guide was quite well done but there wasn't enough of it.
