What are the differences between thanking a post and liking a post

When I like a post I can thank you for it and give you some karma, good or bad.
If I dislike a post I cannot thank you for it, but I can give you karma no matter what.
I also noticed I can change my mind about thanking or liking or liking and thanking.

Do you ever change your mind about wanking?

When creating a thread it appears that I can post a picture in the body of the thread but only those that like or thank or dislike even will be able to see certain content.

Edit: If I choose advance options that is true as well.
