What is the first thing you must do if you want to overthrow the government?

Purely hypothetical of course.... (looks around nervously for man in tan mac with trilby pulled down low over his eyes)....but what is the first thing you would do if you wanted to overthrow an unpopular government?

People with best answers will not be put against the wall and shot once i'm president for life.
 
is that the best you can do? damn. you're going to have to come up with something more original than that if you want to dodge the bullet!

Anyway, who cares if the government has been up to no good? - just because they are honest doesn't mean we can't overthrow them!
 
protest at election time, or go old school and get the army on your side...... then start calling everyone comrade....

Surely in these days of marketing obsessed consumerists TRUST is the answer.

Have you noticed that the shittier and more insecure the world gets, the more TV programmes and films there are about secret agents, superheroes and other forces who are out there "looking after us" even when the government is letting us down?

If the people lose trust in the government they look for other organisations that can deliver the safety they crave. For example, did you know that there is an inverse correlation between public confidence in the government and donations to organisations like the Red Cross, medcins sans frontiers and amnesty international?

Perhaps step one therefore should be to set up a trans-national "non-political" organisation that could act "charitably" on behalf of the people - and could be seen to be getting the job done whilst the government is seen as incompetent or uncaring.

Sure. Although it's a little late and I'll just wake up cooked but fuck it.

The only thing about such an organization is that to be seen getting things done you actually have to get things done - I don't imagine it would be an easy task to go into a country - any country - and get done some social task that the government is currently failing on. It's not the worst idea trying to capitalize on the notion that people look to an alternative but I can't imagine what kind of things could be 'gotten done'. I mean you could feed the poor - actively go somewhere and feed the fucking poor but the people your going in and feeding aren't the same people who are donating to support the organization - that's something else entirely. What you need is a grant from a secret organization or billionaire to hire a bunch of scientists and start a Superhero breeding program.
 
First thing to do before overthrowing a government.....Make sure the Bush Family isn't in the White House.
 
even if they aren't in the white house they are everywhere else.....Florida, the electoral commission, Riyadh....
 
No point. Bush may be dumb as a rock but it's what's hiding under the rock that you should be afraid of.
