I'm trying to find a good one so i can do some film projects over the summer.

Maya 7.0 if you're serious, as Q said. But be warned, it's a tough cookie to crack, and the Pro edition ships for like 14 grand. I've been battling it for some months and I've barely scratched the surface. But it is just unfathomably powerful.

But you will most likley be looking for something like Adobe Premiere and After Effects. It depends on what you want to do. All those cool Star Wars fan films that are actually getting pretty impressive in the FX department are done in Premiere and After Effects with techniques like rotoscoping.

As I said, give us some more info and maybe we can put you in the right direction.
