...it invoked a very dull memory.
He hosted this amazingly tedious show that we were forced to watch when I was doing my Art GCSE, at age 15. It was on one single painting - René Magritte's 'Empire of Lights'. Give the insanely dull way the old Queen hosted it, and the fact that it's far from one of Magritte's best works, it's a wonder I went on to become a fan of his work at all.
Most attention, given the fact that we were all 15, was diverted to Melly himself. The old Queen was dressed in a cream & red pinstripe suit, a lá Salad Days, Edwardian style, with a Panama hat, and a fucking eyepatch.
Most of the VHS was spent laughing at him, then getting bored by him (almost like this untypical non-Mine Field style story!)
