Which of these looks better

I have been taking some pictures in black and white lately, messing with various settings.

Out of these two do you prefare the lighter one, or the darker one?

From an artistic standpoint the first picture conveys a certain slow movement "away" that isn't present in the second shot. I think it's the cars that jar the picture, not the darkness.

I disagree. The first one conveys a much greater sense of alone-ness. There are no other people in that world.

For all you know the cars in the second one could be lone survivors fleeing a zombie apocalypse(as implied by the darkness), so it still could be more depressing.

it's more visual stylistic stuff than content. The angle of the road, the structure of the clouds, how they almost march away from the foreground in neat dwindling rows, even the grass seem to be sweeping away. The top picture is pure empty, and the addition of the cars below actually takes away from the natural kinetic movement of everything else. Jarring.

The sky with all those well defined clouds in the second picture instead of the washed out sky in the first one. Then, put one of those aliens from Signs running down the road.
