Who here has a TiVo?

feijuada

actually not Jesus
I am thinking about getting one, but I cna't find anyone who owns one and can give me good information. Tell me all you can! If I get one I'll get the lifetime service, and I don't want to spend a total of $600 for a peice of shit machine.

So?

I was told htat new programming forces the Tivo to delete certain shows after a certain amount of time. Is this true?

I don't have TiVo--I have the DVR service that comes with DishNetwork.

I can lock a recording so that it isn't automatically deleted after a set time period, or when I run out of room and it wants to record something new. However, if I forget to lock it, then once I've filled my 100 hours, it starts deleting stuff, starting with the oldest, unlocked recording.

It's worth it, even if there is a database somewhere with a list of what I watch. It's completely changed the way I watch television, giving me complete control over when I watch a program. And I never miss an episode.

The other nice thing about my Dish system is that I have a dual receiver in the DVR box, so I can record two shows at the same time, one on TV "A"--the big screen downstairs--and one on TV "B"--the bedroom set. The hard drive is then accessible from both sets.

TiVO is the greatest invention since the woman. And that's not hyperbole.

I'm with Big Dick on this one!

i bought the "el cheapo" 40 hour series 2, then put 2 huge hard drives in it myself, so i'm set

I highly suggest SageTV... Unlimited number of inputs, and can handle multiple encodings.

MythTV is another one, works nice on a cheap linux box with a big harddrive and a video capture card

there are tutorials all over the net to set up your own DVRs and all the software choices
