I know what utorrent is, but I don't know what you guys are talking about. I always assumed the u was a trendy way of saying "you", akin to the i in all of Apples products. MU = Micro u torrent? Buh?
Nono. µ is the greek letter mu, and it's the SI prefix for micro. So µg is a micro gram, µtorrent is a microtorrent. Micro is really really small (a thousandth of milli), so it just means that it's a really small torrent program.
Welcome to the Internet, where popular malapropism wins over accuracy.
Even though I've been quite aware of the meaning of the symbol, AFAIC it's pronounced "U-Torrent" to me, and I'm not about to change my ways after all these years and all these gigs.
i'm going to write a torrent client called "Ωtorrent" wherein every torrent you download will be your last. i'll sell it with the tag line, "the ultimate torrent client".
